Thanks for the support Tiger. You're right, of course, there are always going to be some who get on their high horse. I agree that some are too sensitive and don't really hold things in perspective.

As for Jose, I really can't be arsed to carry on any kind of debate with you. You're looking to provoke and, frankly, it's like arguing with a brick wall. You're not going to listen to reason, you're not putting forward any decent points, and you're resorting to insults. You've got issues about censorship that you're trying to tie in with my film. You odn't like violent films, fine. Go back to reading the Daily Mail. Just not worth my time.

1) It's not really about a high horse as much as it's about "Chilling out". You want to make a movie, no harm in that. You want to make paintball a part of it, all cool. If you want to add CG F/X and have diffrent sound F/X, hey, it's your film. I've been trying to put "Roadtrip" together for a while, I know how much fun it is.

Wether or not I agree with what you want to do is not an issue, as it's not MY film. If I wanted to do a film, I'd do it myself. And I've got the equipment here to edit a movie myself. If I think I can do better, I can take a stab at it. (http://www.webdogradio.us/video/tipclip/WDRMV02hi.wmv is a resume piece) And trust me, what you've proposed to film is tame to some of the stuff I've seen.

2) Jose, actually, is a pleasure to debate with. Well informed, and he can spell most things right. :) And I like to talk stuff wiht him online. He'd be a cool gato, IMHO.

Cheers Tyger.......... I think if you look at your posts chain, you'll find that you've directly insulted me a number of times, and on one occasion threatened legal action Whereas I just made one comment you didn't like. I'm a school teacher chain, I work with impressionable people, I really do know what I'm talking about. I'm not on my high horse, and if my opinion on your idea isn't to your liking, then I suggest you don't ask for comments from a public forum again.
I am not looking to provoke, I happen to feel quite strongly about the amount of violent crap that's out there and I expressed an opinion (which again, you asked for).

As for having issues with censorship? I believe you brought that up with your blanket statement "censorship bad, classification good".
I've done nothing but come up with points that you could have discussed.......but no, you can't be AR**D, I'm a pillock and I'm not worth your time.

I was just discussing the point....... have a read back, I've never dismissed you offhand, resorted to name calling or thrown my toys out of the pram........that was you, answering all of my points with an insult.
So, basically, I really CAN be ar**d to argue with you, I don't get provoked and find it quite funny when someone else does.

SO, again...validate your idea and give me a reason to listen to you, look at my suggestion.....(Do it blade style...... paintballers shooting vamps, no harm, no foul..remember water pistols in Lost Boys?).
Oh, and I'm not against violence in films at all. re-read what I posted. So there ya go...... respond and play nice, or just chuck another insult. Up to you really.

Ok then, try this maybe...

Scene.. Paintball field, fully netted, barricades inflated, sun, a little wind.

Marshall#1 (looking at Clipboard) "Ok, can we have Team Matrix and Team Zion"

Slow-mo: Marshall POV shot of Neo look-a-alike clad in long black leather coat, sunglasses on under googles, black gloves, jeans, big boots, steping through the netting, walking towards the marshall, and stopping. Cam focused on googles.

Marshall#1 looks Neo up and down and peers at googles: "Can you see with those shades on? And you're gonna have to ditch the coat.. rules say two layers but that's taking the p1ss"

Neo: "I'll be ok. I will remove the coat before the game starts"

Marshall#1 (looking around): "Where are the rest of your team?"

Neo: "I don't know. Don't worry about it."

Marshall#1: "Ok.. your call. (Marshall turns away) Now, where is..."

Slow-mo: Close up on smart black black shoe stepping on 'spent' paintballs lying on the ground. Camera pans around and up as foot lifts so show back of suited figure walking towards Neo and Marshall, wearing googles and carrying a completely gloss black marker setup.

Marshall#1 steps to one side and Agent stops facing Neo.

Agent: "Mr Anderson."

Marshall#1 (peering at Agent): "More sunglasses.. and you're going to play in a suit?!?"

Agent: "Yes. Style is.. after all.. everything, is it not Mr Anderson"

Neo: "Some would say ability counts more than style."

Agent: "With ability comes.. responsibility. With the right style, you can appear to have ability without the.. burden of responsibility. Style, by it's very nature determines appearance and..."

Marshall#1: "Oi!" Agent head turns to look at Marshall "Enough talk. You playing by yourself too?"

Agent "Yes... it will be.. just me."

Marshall#1: "Good, this'll be over quick then. Heads or Tails?"

Neo: "Heads."

Marshall flicks coin into air. Slow-mo Bullet-time focused on coin, swing around the back of Marshall, Neo and Agent until coin reaches top of flick. Fast-time as coin drops into Marshalls hand.

Marshall#1: "Heads it is." Looking at Neo "Which end?"

Neo: "The far end."

Marshall#1 (to Agent): "Your this end." (to both): "Ok, game will start anytime after the ten second call, no arguing with the marshalls, when you're hit make your way to the deadbox at your end of the field, have a good game."

Neo walks off towards far end of the field while the Agent steps over to his start point, a four foot high, five feet wide piece of board. A second marshall steps over a chronographs the Agents marker.

Marshall#2: "Barrell on the top.. ok fire.. 299.. 299.. 299.. you're ok"

Marshall#2 steps away as Agent steps behind start point.

Cut to: At the other end of the field Neo has reached his start point and stands to one side, looking back towards Agent. Marshall approaches him.

Marshall#3: "Ok, loose the coat, time to chrono"

Neo opens the coat as he removes it revealing an array of markers strapped under his arms, on his legs, across his chest.

Marshall#3: "err.."

Cut to: Agent POV looking towards Neo. Agent pulls coiled wire earpiece from under his collar and fits it under his ear protectors.

Marshall#2 and another Marshall see this from the side of the field.

Marshall#2: "Did he just put an earpiece in...?"
Marshall#4: "Yeah, I think he did.. cheeky git"

Both start walking towards Agent

Marshall#2: "Oi! No communications devices"

Cut to: At the other end of the field Neo watches the two marshalls walking towards Agent. Ignoring the marshall next to him, he draws two markers.

Cut to: As the Marshalls walk towards Agent they spot another Agent kneeling behind the start point.

Marshall#3: "I thought it was just him?"
Marshall#2: "So did I.. and there's another one.."

Behind the board four more Agents are kneeling down, markers ready.

Marshall#2(shouting and pointing at Agent) as he walks: "Oi. I thought it was just you playing?"

Agent (from the front): "It is.. just me, me, me..."

Camera pans around to rear of start point where 5 Agents are now kneeling

Agent#2: "And me"
Agent#3: "Me too"
Agent#4: "Don't forget me"
Agent#5: "And not least of all.. me"

All the Agents are alike. Same suit. Same googles, same sunglasses, same coiled earpieces.

Agent: "Game on, Mr Anderson"

Cut to: Close up of Neo watching

Neo: "Yeah, game on"

Neo takes a step forward, and 30 Agents burst, in slow-mo, from behind thier start point, one after the other, all markers up and sweet spotting.

The rest is choreography but I would see one Neo "stopping" the first wave of paintballs, plucking one out of the air and bursting it between his fingers... the Agents then all running for primaries, maybe an agent sliding into a barricade and 5 coming out... a steady stream of Agents walking to the deadzone and a huge crowd of them gathering there, Neo and Agents doing some cool leaps, bounces off barricades, slow-mo paintball shots and dodges, the Marshalls 1-4-1'ing and 2-4-1'ing the Agents for playing on and wiping, Neo dropping his markers rather than reloading.. you get the idea...

Rip-off, definitly. Possibly, definitly. Expensive, relatively.

Fun, in my opinion yes.

Yep I like that idea - would it be OK to bonus ball still though? That's part of the appeal of the Matrix - overkill :D

Expensive - well not really, you could cheat a lot of the effects. Main problem is people would expect Matrix style action, and that's a little out of our range! Don't get me wrong, a bit of green screen and a truck load of digital cameras, the CG guy has software to interpolate, but really it's getting very technical!

Still I like the basic idea. Cloning agents is very easy - all suits and masks with no face mapping to do. Stopping the paintballs mid-air is a little CG. Plucking one out of air - thin fishing line (I'm serious, would have to be CG'd out afterwards!).

I'll definitely think about it but I don't think with the equipment I personally have available it's possible. Still....

Edit - if I were to do that approach, I'd lose most of the build-up as it's too "paintball". And the long jacket would have to be kept on - they look cool in slow-motion. The dialogue should be:

Single agent facing off against Neo.

Agent: "Mr. Anderson, where's the rest of your team"

Neo: "I don't think I'll be needing them"

Agent: "Very brave of you, Mr. Anderson"

Neo: "Where's your team?"

Agent: "Oh, they're all here..."

With that 20 agents peel off from Behind the lead agent (a bit of a blocking nightmare but can be done with forced perspective).

As for the no-killing, well it would look really cool if when an agent was "killed" (and I don't mean a foot shot, I'm talking about 6 in the chest) they disappear in a matrix-style code and vanish. But that's tricky!

Why not make it really, really cheesy? ham it up and make an obviously dreadful matrix copy? You know, deliberately bad.sort of an antidote to all of the films that knicked bullet time?

Stop frame in the middle while neo grabs a coffee, Neo's phone rings mid game, action stops while everyone else tries really hard to stand completely still? Pixelation effects, but half way through the cameraman trips. Neo goes into slow mo for a John Woo dive.... everyone else carries on at normal speed, stand scratching their heads and discussing what he's up to...... you don't have to worry about the effects if it's meant to be funny.

Well there are a couple of spoofs around on-line. You want to see funny, check this out: http://www.djs.org.uk/kin10.wmv

I don't want to spoof it, I'm looking to extend my cinematic vocabulary and make a good, high octane gun-play action sequence. It's part of a learning process for me.

Right I'm away for a day or two, but please keep the ideas coming. Remember must be cheap to make!

One quick addition as I'm out the door...

Easier, cheaper way to do the Agents "dying". As suggested, have them walk off the field, until it's down to Neo and the lead agent. When that agent dies (and I'm a cool, cool idea of how to do that!) he breaks down into code and vanishes, then the watching agents on the sidelines turn into code as well. I see it as 3 green screen shots. Much easier to do than repeat effects, though no where near as cool.
