drop the pyro and gun effects. 20 paintball markers shooting fast is quite loud enough and a pounding soundtrack always helps. look at most extreme sports videos etc. lots of cool footage and mtv like background music(or bach is u prefer:) )

I was going to leave the thread alone, but I'd like to thank Urban for his suggestions and understanding of the concept.

Jones, thanks for the Spaced link I'll check out that episode sometime soon.

Jose, man you've got to relax this would only be seen by a few people - it's not the end of civilisation as we know it :D The 8 Mile reference - I thought shooting paintballs from a car was a fairly common occurance in the US. There were references to paintballing in rap music before the film! Art is just a reflection of society, if it influences people then that's not really the film makers fault. Sorry I get a bit pissed when people start blaming the media for a person's actions - just because I watched Star Wars doesn't mean I'm going to build a Death Star in my back garden to dominate the galaxy.

As for "is it right" well I've already said I believe censorship is bad. I don't think there should be so many films with talking dogs (have you ever watched Sky movies on a weekday afternoon?) but they still make them :D

This thread was never intended to provoke or get "publicity" (it won't be sold, it's being done for fun, and if I'm the only person who sees and likes the end movie, then that's just fine), the thread was to get opinions and input.

Concensus is negative. Fair enough. If anyone has any constructive suggestions I'd be happy to hear them.

Are you a film student? So you don't believe in censorship....... I bet you'd get on with Gary Glitter then.
I never blamed the media for anything........ I just don't want to see my sport in a negative light. You asked for opinions and you got them. I can tell reality and fiction apart, I just think you can go to far....... You can make a fictional version of almost anything...... doesn't mean it's ok though.

Nope not a film student.

The Gary Glitter comment was totally uncalled for and very immature. If you have to sink to such depths to make your point I pity you.

As for seeing your sport in a negative light, well that's not what I'd be doing. Really man, you're decrying this thing like it's going to harm paintball or something stupid. It's a little film made for next to no money that'll be seen by almost no-one. You've not put forward anything approaching a good argument. It's your opinion and that's fair enough, but try expressing your points articulately and not resorting to cheap insults. That hardly adds to your argument and makes you look like a pillock.

RE-Edit: I took great offence in the Gary Glitter comment. I'm expecting a full apology.

If you don't either the sounds of paintball guns fireing, the look of paintball guns fireing and you want people to 'die' realisticly when hit then whats the point in using paintball markers?

You could simply do away with all the eye gear that your cast and crew would need by using blank fireing pistols or BB replicas.

If its simply the impact of the paintballs on cloth then film those as extra elements afterwards, or make your own squibs, it aint that hard.

If you want to base a stylish movie on tourny ball there are better ways of going about it than a simple bullet ballet style.

You mentioned CGI stuff, I'm kinda interested in what you'd be using that for?

Squibs are pretty tricky to make! Legally it's dodgy and safety is very important; the same with blank firing replicas. I don't know an armorer nor do we want to spend that much money! Squibs will set us back about £10 each.

It's not the impact of the paintballs, though that does add an element of fun. I just thought it was a novel idea. I want to shoot an action gun-play sequence, and have been looking at doing it the traditional way for the last month or so. However using paintball guns would be cheaper, safer, easier, and unique. It's hard to argue against the benefits.

CGI - well there are a few slow-mo shots with paintballs flying around, which will have to be CG balls (or a really fast shutter speed!). Then there's a shot following a ball to it's target. Then the conclusion where the hero takes out the head bad guy with his last paintball. I see them as being Matrix-esque shots but we won't be able to achieve anything like that really, so they'll be cut back to something more sensible.

Anyway if it happens you'll see what I mean. I liked the idea about just boosting the smoke from the guns without the flares, we'll run some tests (smoke will be CG as well).
