Shame no-one has mentioned the Aussies or Kiwis yet, they played a massive part in the combined Allied forces.

my grandad once told me a story. that near to the end of the war they had liberated this small town in france, as his company were moving thru the town carrying wounded mates, locals started to come out of there houses, my grandad asked this frog for a drink of water for his mate, this very gratefull frog who had just been liberated, tried to sell the water, not give! not only that,he tried to sell his wife to have sex with the liberating troops.......

shame no-one has even mentioned the 'Free Polish Forces' either.Having their country occupied by the germans since 1939 and putting up a good struggle before escaping to France only to get overrun there,again by the germans,with the french surrenduring not long after, only to escape yet again to the UK to carry on the fight ,with the intention to eventually liberate their home country.these guys joined the British forces and were split into several divisions made up entirely of Polish nationals.The Polish had it hard, as the ones who got away in 1939 never got to see home untill 1945 and they fought harder than any other British unit in WW2(or so was said),only to get back home and then have the Red Army round up over 70% of them and have them shot for collaberating with the west
