Some people don't want to spend hours typing messages in full grammatical prose however! I can type perfectly well when I need or want to, but for the purposes of replying to a post on here it's simply not worth typing everything properly when most people understand a few shortenings - ie:

u - you,
m8 - mate,
gr8 - great,
p+p - postage and packaging, ;)
pb - paintball.

I apologise if anyone doesn't understand anything I write on the boards, but if they'd like to email or private message me I will be happy to rewrite my post in standard English.

Also, I really hope I haven't made any spelling errors on this post or I'm going to be laughed at for weeks!

spend hours? its a few moments at best. im all for text talk - but not on here. a) it makes you look very very lazy and b) most people cant understand it.

Ok maybe hours was a little exaggeration, but you know what I mean when you need to type a large volume of instructions for example... a lot easier to shorten some words :) I try not to as much as possible anyway I'm just arguing for the right to :)

But we're not all like you...
I have never measured my typing speed, but when using IM programs I can type a lot quicker shorthand than I can in continuous prose! And due to being able to type the shorthand versions of words so fast its natural to use as many as possible on forums.

Would you make notes on a training course in full plain English when someone was talking?

Are you making notes here? No you are not...
That's one excuse shot down in flames. This is a FORUM, not a chatroom, meaning you have time to think about your responses and the way you word them.

Also, typing speed is not relevant, unless you need minutes to find the keys on your keyboard. Only then would it make sense that you would want to use as few keys as possible.

And be happy you are not like me. Seriously.
