Depends on how those 2 spots are chosen
In TonTons website

"EXL
10 teams in. 8 Europeans teams (the 8 first european teams of the Millennium 2k3 circuit) + 2 NXL teams (not inevitably the 2 same US teams each time). The two US NXL teams will come for the cash prices not to be ranked in the EXL. At the end of the year, the 4 best European EXL teams will travel to Orlando to face the 4 best NXL teams of the year for the World Cup. "

Not MS website or MS press release either, but still good info...

We've been FCUKed again

This is there press release

The first big change is that we shall be introducing a Pro-League X Ball™ series, known as EXL, which be played at 4 Millennium events. The league will be made up of the top 8 European Teams with 2 spots left open for high ranked U.S. teams. At the end of the European Series the 4 top placed European teams will play the top 4 NXL teams in a genuine World X Ball™ Championship decider.

Where does it say NXL teams? Dynasty has supported the Millennium Series for a long time now. We have worked hard and done everything possible to make ourselves a marketable team to the Millennium-series. If we don't get the opportunity at least get the invite to this......there is going to be a serious problem here. You FCUKed us last year with the nations cup and now you are going to do it again. This is a load of crap.

Rodders, I think you could be getting carried away with things
here because there are many more teams in front of you who would have a legitimate claim to being fcuked, Hardcore being the first and most prominent.
And of course the rest of the Euro pro teams who now only get four tournaments to play in.

Dynasty have been one of the most consistent entrants to Millennium tournaments but then let's get a handle on this here, I would be too if I was picking up the first place prize money every time I come across.
You guys get treated exceedingly well, have a great time and rightfully take home the first prize but please don't try and make out it's all one way and you are doing us all the favours here, you ain't mate.

And I also fail to see how the Nation’s Cup fcuked ya; it did however fcuk Europe right up the ass, it was a complete waste of time and put the serious European teams one year behind.

And as for 'there is going to be a serious problem here' as you say; there ain't mate !!!

Now put your toys back in the pram Rodders, you ain't getting fcuked at all, you can still come across to four Millenniums and take all the money and with the rest of the money you guys have now got coming in, I'd think 99% of teams (inc Nexus) out there in the real world would just love to be 'fckued' in the same way as you are.
Anyway Rodders, have a great Xmas and I’ll see you in Huntington probably.

I'd like to know if the proposed EXL teams are going to support the Premier League or are they filling the rest of their calendar with NPPL or PSP? I know it's early to ask, but what are your first thoughts about this?

So if only 8 teams are allowed in the EXL and its closed does that mean europe will only accomadate 8 pro teams since nobody has a chance to move up into the EXL and if it takes off as that is what the ms are gonna push then sponsorship will die out for the other teams not playing EXL and they will no longer be able to play as much as they do.

It seems as though they are closing the market. Shutting the door in the face of the little teams. These teams that aspire to become pro will no longer be able to work hard to acheive it, they will just have to be content with playing at the same level for the rest of there days never being able to play the top teams. Just funding these teams with there own money that they spend to play the sport.

The only way the paintball companies have money to fully sponsor the top teams and the MS has any money is because of the little teams that play to try to reach the top and for the fun as most know they will never reach the top.

Now you are kicking them in the teeth, the one thing that my team looked forward to each year was the chance at MS events to try and test ourselves against the big pro teams and top am A as if you felt you put up a good fight or even beat them it gave you hope that you could get to that level.

Now there is no hope we may as well just play our national tourneys.

The teams that have supported the MS (dynasty, hardcore, storm, worms and many others and all the small teams) have been given a big FCUK YOU in favour of a format which probably see's the MS making quite a bit of money out of the deal with the NXL.

I don't blame the teams that will play the EXL as i would if i had the chance i blame the organisers for crushing the hopes of many paintballers of ever reaching the top.

Oh puhlease...

Even if, and this is a big if, the EXL is locked to those 8 teams forever, who cares?

That doesn't stop people from playing Pro. Just look at the NXL, they've been grabbing new talent left and right for the new format. These teams have a very strong motivation to have the best players they can get their hands on - which is actually a big change from the past where who got to play was just as much about who was paying the bills and who your friends were.

Yes, it does mean that you can't just pick some guys and have your own pro team, but that's exactly the way it should be, and such change was INEVITABLE if the sport ever got to the level we want it to go. The whole idea that an "up and coming team" should, as a group, have the opportunity to play at whatever level they want is really quite silly. If you start a new team, you'll be lucky if 2 of the guys on it are really qualified to play Pro, and there's just no reason to let the other 5 move up with you.

But look at the bright side - if it does get there, while you won't be able to just take your own team Pro on a whim, the players who are good enough to play at the pro level will make some decent bank doing so.

Top players will be hired and appropriately compensated.

Teams will be for people with money who can buy them.

You are missing the point, Itchy!

We are not talking about taking your own team pro on a whim. We are talking about teams, that for a period of time has proven that they deserve to play at the top level.
And trought a promotion systems qualifies for EXL.

If the Exl will be closed we will see a couple of Tampa Bay Bucs teams.

They will end up last year after year, still they are guaranteed the spot in the EXL.

The way sports are run in Europe is different than the us.

We don't have closed leaques and franchises. It's systems were you are promoted if you are good enought.

I think it will be a big mistake to have a closed leaque.

Tampa Bay Bucs have been play off contenders over the last few seasons, thank you very much...

I get your point though, but it's a problem that's easily fixed: Draft picks. Work out a system where the lowest ranking teams get to pick new talent first. Works wonders in the NFL/NBA/MLB/NHL/BDB.

(BDB is Blah Dee Blah) ;)
