I had to say it sometime.....
Well, here's what I know.
At Pittsburgh I can tell you there was talk of keeping the team together, however, it was only AFTER the guys had actually played together, they all realised quite what a special thing these players have, and great players feed off other great players. They all got along really well, however much Bowen tried to gte rise's out of people
.
It was not a done deal, all the guys went back to their respective teams and agreed they would play out the season and honour their commitments. They said that they would think about things just after Campaign. As for sponsors I'm afraid you're off GloryKid
it was always the intention to give "first refusal" to all the Xball sponsors (Draxxus, DYE, WDP) and then the guys decide if they want to take them up. Smart Parts and JT probably wont be involved, but nothing is signed AFAIK.
Now some of you might think that this was all hatched way back when and Xball was just a facade, well, I can honestly say that until Pittsburgh, nothing was decided.
Now, as for me (if you care!), while I was invovled in Xball, and many thanks for Robbo et al for their support of me in that, I wont be continuing on with this phase of the team for 2 reasons.
Firstly, I'm not good enough, simple as that. These guys are great players and I would dearly love to walk onto a field with them, but I can't honestly say there is one player I think I should take the spot of. with time and training with them then i'd hope to improve to be a contender, but there isn't that luxury. Also, as the team (at least in the short term) will pretty much be playing 7 man, you can't afford to carry extra organisers/coaches/spares etc and there is already 9 players, + Ledz, + Robbo. There is no spot for me on the team and I completly accept that.
Secondly, I've been spoilt by seeing a team that great. Watching them was one of the proudest moments ever to think I had some hand in gettting these guys together. I said to Junior in the states that if I can't be a part of something that special for the reasons above, then I'll give up as I really can't get motivated to play at a lower level for another 12-18 months.
So that is why I have quit paintball, sold most of my gear and am taking this oppurtunity to realise a long held goal and go travelling for a few years starting in the new year.
I wish these guys the very very best of luck, they are a superb bunch of guys and deserve all the support they can get. I for one will be looking out for them whenever I can glimpse a PGI or on the 'net
For once though I also completely agree with Rancid
, that please don't build them up too quickly to get knocked down, I bet by the middle of next year they'll be contenders at every event - but if they take a few more months then what the hell.
Sorry for the length, but I wanted to get things straight.
