It was late TJ, very late and I work far too hard:p Fully auto Ramping Chimps are the way forward. Why do the work when a chimp can?:D

Firing fast is a low level skill...is it better to fire fast or use your fire to make a strategically important move...that the crowd actually can appreciate the importance of?....

I know of many factory sponsored teams who were using modes that add shots, not as noticably as full on ramp chips, but added shots, ages before everyone started the 3shot burst craze. People cannot fire 15+bps consistantly without aid..yet they were well before the ramp chip rage started off. Toye-youve been getting out-gunned for years.

Many players from EXL has told me they actually got shot LESS when ramp was introduced, maybe because they weren't getting 20+bps at them from players using 'true semi' skill.

How many chrono judges did we see nursing a gun in their lap and gently applying subtle pressure to triggers to make the gun bounce last year? And this after we were all told that there was a procedure that was more robust with the testing that better simulates in game conditions.

Gently cradling a gun whether or not it is on your shoulder does not happen in game.
Just for the record, if you saw what you described after Maxs last year where we had some teething and communication problems then it was done against very clear instructions to the referees and only when I wasn't looking. The refs were instructed to hold the guns tightly against their shoulders and to allow one or two bounces occasionally but not allow any bursts. Why? Because that CAN add shots and is definitely unsafe and in some places illegal.

The odd bounced shot is far more preferable than ramping with its follow on shots after the trigger has been released for the last time - that is INSANE.
I totally agree. I don't want to ever step foot on a field again where guns continue shooting more than one shot after trigger release and it should not have been allowed.

Accountability - that is the route - from the industry to start with, and then from the teams and the individuals.

Introduce the hard and fast rule and demand the industry complies with series standard boards. Employ a techno head to prove that they comply. Ban anyone found who has illegal boards, fine the team.

Just don't give in.
I generally agree and hope we can find a way.

I'm wondering if everyone posting here has read the article? I'd say probably not as we are going over the same arguments as many other threads. Arguments that Robbo addresses in PGI 195.

So, I'm interested in hearing the responses from those people supporting ramping once they have read it. And hearing from everyone with their opinions on Robbo's solution.

But Mark, a paintball gun is simply NOT classed as a firearm. Not at the moment it isn't anyway. That much is certain.

Well you've hit the nail straight on the head

You have reinforced my point entirely - paintball guns sit very comfortably right in the middle of a grey area in UK law that we have been fortunate enough that havent been scrutineised too severely.

That is, whilst the law makers and enforcers belive we are all toting SEMI-AUTO markers.

Get caught with a full-auto/ramping gun and we'll see.

No, I would conjecture it is more likely that it is not classed as a firearm because of the non lethal nature of it's projectiles. Nothing to do with firing modes, otherwise we are back to the airsoft argument.

However, I will now keep to my word and refrain from posting again until I've read the article.

LOL

Toulouse last year - try and get a head judge to the field that you are just about to play on when they are running behind and you are arguing that he isnt following the agreed procedure. The judge in question was amazed when I asked him why he wasnt following it - he didnt even know that there was a standard.

I was gobsmacked, we borrowed a spare for a team waiting, the guy merrily proceded in ignorance.

Why must you all discuss rate of fire? When it should be about the ability to move up and combine that with marksmanship which should count!

I say...

Ban the chips and leave the rest to your fingers! If you can fire 14- 20bps manually *(without intervention), then you have my full respect and that should be final.

Too much $$$$ has been spent developing silly fire modes and crap barrel systems that do not actually improve performance in terms to acurracy. Sponsors have probably paid large wads of £££ so torny organisers have introduced ramping to enable these manufacturers to be able teams to advertise their new latest piece so that players spend money to play catch-up with everyone else.

Standardise I say, give everyone in a team a standard Automag or something to level the fields!!!

Don't I know it ;)

Seriously though, that is for sure, at least I have a clear conscience.

I did dabble in a little 'turbo' for a couple of tournaments against my better judgememt and was relieved when that fell by the wayside.

As for firing fast being low-level - agreed but not in combination with other core skills.
