Thankyou sir.
I dont believe how many people jumped on such a flippant remark. you guys, come on. like it has been said. consider the source !

That's the problem, ain't it? How can I consider the source if I have no idea who you are?

I happen to know DW quite well Through this sport, hes a diamond, and im sure, infact i would bet some of my hard earned beer tokens on it that DW saw that comment exactly as it should have been seen, see above also.

Perhaps, but since this is a public forum, do you not realise that whatever you put up in here, is not only for your mates to see?

I was a joke. Yes it was a stereotypical joke, but a joke nevertheless, It had no racial tint in it whatsoever, lets face it, we all make stereotypes, has anyone ever met robtattoo, or bod. feck me if we all took those guys at face value, everyone would have been too scared to talk to them. I reality they happen to be some of the hairiest blokes that i know, but also some of the nicest i would ever want to meet.

Like I said before, you should have made it absolutely, painstakingly obvious that you were making a joke. Or even better, just save jokes like that for the pub or something, where people can see your non verbal communications as well.

maybe it was a cheap shot, if that is the case then i apologise, but i resent the fact that the word racist comes up all too often.
people need to distiguish racist remarks from geniune, often poking fun at racists remarks.

Yet at the same time it is your responsibility to make sure that whatever message you are trying to put out there stands the smallest possible chance of being misinterpreted.

I think as a culture (not just in the sport) we can become too ready to jump on someone who mentions colour of skin as a generalisation, maybe that is the real problem, youre all too afraid that someone is going to take offence. maybe once in a while you should talk to a black person as a PERSON and not as a BLACK PERSON.

Don't be patronising. Most of the people here have brains in their heads (okay, some more so than others...) and my involvement with black people is such that I can ONLY see them as just another person. My daughter is half black for crying out loud! So it's pretty safe to assume I am not part of the standard, white, middle class PC crowd, who uses the fact that they "have a black colleague" to fend off any racist accusations. You wouldn't believe the amount of racism that still permeates the world today, even in so called tolerant, liberal countries like Holland, often heralded as the shining example of integration. Yes, people work together fine, blah blah blah, but god forbid that your daughter shows up with a black boyfriend. In the same way that people have no problem with homosexuals, until their son brings home his boyfriend.

Edging around the subject will only cause more resentment in the long run.

Agreed, but putting not very well thought out jokes on the internet doesn't improve the situation much either.
Or are you now trying to tell me that in fact your post was meant to change the world for the better, by forcing us to think about the subject?

If you think that i am a racist from one post then fair enough. Personally i think it was too much to moderate that light hearted post.

I don't think you are racist any more than the avarage person, I just think you made a dumb move by posting what you did, the way you did it.

The fact that I have taken the time to explain myself shows that i do actually care. And if you have taken the time to read this post then i thankyou.

All it does is show that you do care about not getting kicked off the forum, but I'll take your word for it. And you're welcome ;)

If i am out of line. TELL ME, thats what this forum is for. if you agree, then also, respond and tell me your thoughts.

Isn't that exactly what happened?

thanks guys.

ps,
A belated :D

You wasted a lot of words, where you just could have said "sorry, made a boo-boo", but I'll take your word for it. So let's move on from here.

And yeah, what Duffy said...;)

Well...

... as one of the people who was slightly concerned with the way JD's post would/could be interpreted I am happy to see that he has at least made the effort to apologise for making an error in his judgement :)
At least he didn't go off and hide under a rock, its good to know he felt able to voice how he felt about the compliants etc. and saw that his post wasn't in the best of taste.

2p.... chink. :)

Forgive and forget time methinks :)

Spotted you as we went onto the field....... but you had your mask on........ so I still don't know what you look like. We didn't arrive until ten to nine so we were running around like idiots all day, then Dave shattered his collar bone, so I wasn't at my most observant, you could have been marching up and down the hyperball field with the DW dancers singing Dark Warrior is here again and I'd have missed you :)

Look out for me on the 15th....... we'll be the team calling an ambulance, again. I think it's Dale's turn to be comically injured.

Cool!...which half? :D

Sorry... I couldn't resist...I have this annoying habit of "misquoting" things people say in a literal context...it drives Gillie up the wall...especially as she gets it all the time :)

I'm not, or at least I don't think I am or ever have been, racist...I've always found it a subject that's most often discussed by people with little experience of it...when it comes up I always think back to an incident during my Army days when I served alongside a guy called Fred, who was quite definately black. The colour of his skin however never even occurred to me as an issue, he was a grunt same as me. One day some guy from a visting unit plastered National Front stickers all over the bar with rather ignorant comments like "The Wog is after your woman".."N*ggers are taking your jobs"...all that kind of crap. Naturally Fred was rather upset by this and I remember thinking how crap it was to think of people in those terms. Full sympathy to Fred, poor lad.

Two weeks later we were sat in the bar one afternoon watching crap TV when a documentary comes on about Asian community centres (something I have a hang up about because if I opened a "White Anglo Saxon community centre" I'd be arrested)...and Fred, the hard done to victim of racist abuse suddenly leaps up and starts shouting, rather ferociously, "I f*cking hate Paki B*st*rds!"

The point? Not sure, but I think racism is subjective rather than objective. I am yet to encounter it in paintball...although I actually have been the subject of racism...from an Australian no less...but that's another story :D

I really don't envy the Mod's in this respect. It is a fine line between what is socially acceptable and what's not.

The PA rules prohibits "racally offensive slogans" on clothing or equipment...I really hope Russell or I never have to make a ruling on something like that.

Oh...I also served with a white South African who's nickname was Kaffa...not sure what that throws into the pot but thought I'd mention it anyway :)

(Do I really need to explain to anyone that my opening line was a joke? Or was that also in "bad taste" and am I gonna get branded a racist?)

I went into a local sandwhich bar the other day....ordered a nice sarny and a coffee..."With or without milk?"
"Black with two sugars, please"
The nice lady sasy "You cant say that anymore"
"Why?"
"Well, it may be taken as offensive to some people"

I could see what she was getting at....but I dont suppose there are many Black or White people out there who would take offence to these references in this context...everyone calls Black people "Black" on the news, etc...and white people "White"

Unless you are confident that you can guess a persons Ethnic origin..ie a white Irishman, looks the same as a white Englishman...a Guy from Barbados, is just as Black as a guy from Jamaica..or maybe a guy from Nigeria or Ghana...
Some people use the P word to describe all Indian/Pakistani people...two diferent peoples all together, different religions, the lot...thats why an Indian, wont like being called by that term...coz he isnt!!!

So, Black, White, Asian...Eastern European, Oriental...are all acceptable terms in my book....but as said, some people wil jump on you for mentioning it...

The point being, that some people do take things too far..with little experience..I dont suppose anyone had complained about it...they just choose to take that view...bizarre..

Yeah DAVE STEWART..and his son Cain....
Ended up playing with them at a training day with Wolf...for a game...interesting...
Oh and Freddie from Wolf Pac..looks like Jah Rule...cool bloke...
Did come to play a game with no bolt in his cocker tho...that was funny...:D

No...she said that it might be offensive to use the word BLACK...when ordering coffee, ie Black or White...with or without milk...etc..which i thought was bloody ridiculous...and i told her so...
Black people refer to themselves in this manner. That is not to say that because some of them refer to themselves and each other, with the N word, that we should...its offensive for us to do so...purely because of the whiteman's ignorance back in the old times, where the word was derived from the word Negro (possibly from the country name Nigers {Nigeria} )

Doesnt Puff Daddy, P-Diddy, Shaun Coombs...play as well?
