Thankyou sir.
I dont believe how many people jumped on such a flippant remark. you guys, come on. like it has been said. consider the source !
That's the problem, ain't it? How can I consider the source if I have no idea who you are?
I happen to know DW quite well Through this sport, hes a diamond, and im sure, infact i would bet some of my hard earned beer tokens on it that DW saw that comment exactly as it should have been seen, see above also.
Perhaps, but since this is a public forum, do you not realise that whatever you put up in here, is not only for your mates to see?
I was a joke. Yes it was a stereotypical joke, but a joke nevertheless, It had no racial tint in it whatsoever, lets face it, we all make stereotypes, has anyone ever met robtattoo, or bod. feck me if we all took those guys at face value, everyone would have been too scared to talk to them. I reality they happen to be some of the hairiest blokes that i know, but also some of the nicest i would ever want to meet.
Like I said before, you should have made it absolutely, painstakingly obvious that you were making a joke. Or even better, just save jokes like that for the pub or something, where people can see your non verbal communications as well.
maybe it was a cheap shot, if that is the case then i apologise, but i resent the fact that the word racist comes up all too often.
people need to distiguish racist remarks from geniune, often poking fun at racists remarks.
Yet at the same time it is your responsibility to make sure that whatever message you are trying to put out there stands the smallest possible chance of being misinterpreted.
I think as a culture (not just in the sport) we can become too ready to jump on someone who mentions colour of skin as a generalisation, maybe that is the real problem, youre all too afraid that someone is going to take offence. maybe once in a while you should talk to a black person as a PERSON and not as a BLACK PERSON.
Don't be patronising. Most of the people here have brains in their heads (okay, some more so than others...) and my involvement with black people is such that I can ONLY see them as just another person. My daughter is half black for crying out loud! So it's pretty safe to assume I am not part of the standard, white, middle class PC crowd, who uses the fact that they "have a black colleague" to fend off any racist accusations. You wouldn't believe the amount of racism that still permeates the world today, even in so called tolerant, liberal countries like Holland, often heralded as the shining example of integration. Yes, people work together fine, blah blah blah, but god forbid that your daughter shows up with a black boyfriend. In the same way that people have no problem with homosexuals, until their son brings home his boyfriend.
Edging around the subject will only cause more resentment in the long run.
Agreed, but putting not very well thought out jokes on the internet doesn't improve the situation much either.
Or are you now trying to tell me that in fact your post was meant to change the world for the better, by forcing us to think about the subject?
If you think that i am a racist from one post then fair enough. Personally i think it was too much to moderate that light hearted post.
I don't think you are racist any more than the avarage person, I just think you made a dumb move by posting what you did, the way you did it.
The fact that I have taken the time to explain myself shows that i do actually care. And if you have taken the time to read this post then i thankyou.
All it does is show that you do care about not getting kicked off the forum, but I'll take your word for it. And you're welcome
If i am out of line. TELL ME, thats what this forum is for. if you agree, then also, respond and tell me your thoughts.
Isn't that exactly what happened?
thanks guys.
ps,
A belated
