my 2p's worth

from what I can gather, with my limited political knowledge, the superleague is an attempt to bring paintball into the mainstream.

The premier league being the cream and the league most likely to be used to promote paintball to the masses/TV. If this is the case then I think it has to be invitation only - the teams should be chosen using several criteria - ranking, funding, history (are they gonna fold half way through the year), professionalism, and lastly are these the teams the average Joe baller would like to see promoting our sport (not that they would be allowed to make the choice)

Running a first come first served could see teams who should never be up there getting mashed game after game - boreing.

OK, Nick, I went too fast. (That's what I get for trying to watch Expedition Robinson at the same time.)

Maybe the way you suggested a few posts back is the way to go.

Nick,

OK sounds good

but isn't the invitation a once off to get the league started - once it has started with its 16 (or how ever many) teams then in 2005 the bottom two from the super and top two from division one swap?

Nick, Gareth, Steve, let's not fack about anymore, we can all pretty much guess at the teams who are to be invovled, it don't take much working out if there are only 8 spots available.
We can dress this up all we like but essentially, I think all of us will come up with the same 6 teams and the last two are up for debate.
As I say, we either get serious about this venture (and make no mistake about this, it is a venture) or we don't bother.

Nick..

Some stuff have to be sorted.

1.If we start this premier league whats gonna happen with the US teams playing millennium and Euro teams playing in NPPL?

2. If we close the premier league to 8 teams, whats gonna happen to the other pro teams? Im a bit worried about that.

In any case Im a bit busy getting feedback and trying out the new format thoose days.

It seems to me you are going to do a paradigm shift without a clutch here.. :)

One scenario is:

8 top euro teams play superduperleague

about 10 current Pro and about the top 10 AM a teams play div 1

current bottom half AM a and top 10 AMb play div 2

The rest play div 3, no restrictions in how many tournaments you can attend.

Basically it means we have moved half the classes down one notch into a lower category. That means we can finally say Euro top AM teams can compete with US top AM teams... but it will be interesting to see what the teams think about it..

Disclamer: All figures mentioned in this post may be subject to change, it is late and I am too lazy to look up how many euro teams played in each category last year. right i have two points to make, and they are:

1. i fully agree that the proposals for 'bringing paintball to the media and public' are excellent (i have never disputed that) and that the correct format for that would essentially be the limited superleague entry/invitation (the only way we will be able to get the best teams in that very public eye!) .....but as i said in an earlier post you should not just cast teams asside that want to commit to a full Millennium and partial NPPL attendance for 2004, with only 2 months notice!!!!! this should have been designed, and all teams informed of this proposal at the beginning of the season, giving all teams that are interested in getting a 'Top 16 invitation' a season long opportunity to get their acts together and qualify for this invite!!!

2. sponsorship......again teams like ours have secured very lucrative deals for next season playing at the very top level in Europe and in the US (admittedly only a couple of events are planned in the US at the mo) now we have a situation where we may have to cancel these deals because the league that we are trying to compete in has decided at the eleventh hour that we are not part of the select few! this is not good for us and definately not good for the sport!! this is like selling a machine to the world that has never been tested and nowone knows whether it will work!

for gods sake will someone run this like a business, not a sunday coffee morning where we change the venue and format at the drop of a hat! in any other (real time Pro sport) new formats and equipment are tested at the lower end of the scale first, then when tested and proven, implemented at that top level (anyone remember the yellow football used in Division 3, to see if it is easier to see on the TV than a white one? that did not just happen, it was planned then tested!!!

If you guys can and will play 3 events stateside, and 6 events total, according to my proposal you are IN !

I honestly don't think those are steep requirements for getting to play at the pinnacle of our sport, in an era where things are happening FAST and we need to capitalise on the interest we have gained from media and outside sponsors !

Nick
i have not disagreed with you Nick! and yes we can play 3 events stateside, and 3 in Europe the difference in cost for 6 Euro events is minimal anyways!!

[repeat]my only worry is we are talking about events that will be happening in two months time!!
