Yep, but how many people go "arghhhhhhh!!! I'm not eating that, looks horrible!", when in reality it tastes, just like chicken!

I'm only flipping it out there as a point. TV is a dual edged sword, they're only going to show what they think will be audience appeal. That "could" be to show Pball in a negative light or not. It's not necessarily the be all and end all of Paintball. Look at the mass appeal of paintball in the US, didn't get that through TV (as Tyger says). Really give Paintball development in the UK some thought, and I sometimes wonder who the good guys really are......

What i would like is to see the NPPL and the PA on channel 4 or cabel or something. I would watch it and in reckon enough other people would watch it if it was pitched properly.

doesn't the money transfer with regards televising sporting events usually work the other way round? Seems odd to me that all this talk of 'outside-industry' sponsorship is contradicted by paying someone to film the event?
Models are normally paid for photoshoots, but when they are starting out they usually have to pay to have their photo taken, inorder to get a portfolio together to show their worth before they can get paid for it.

But that is just my way of looking at what may or may not be the situation. I'm just glad that i will be able to watch the PA on sky at some point, how they arrange that is the PA's business. Although it is difficult not to take an interest in something i am keen to see do well. :)

Forgive my cynicism, but I hope you've got a good alarm-clock....I don't think approx. 3000 regular tournament players in this country commands a prime-time slot.

It's like a home-video. Good to watch because you know the deal. To everyone else, it's like having teeth-pulled....

Peace ;)

Steve H,

"NPPL and PA Cup on Channel 4"?

Why not the Millennium? This is the closest approximation in Europe of the NPPL we have, and even that looks like the poor relation.

If and I stress IF, paintball ever gets a show on TV, I'd imagine it to be an approximation of Football focus. The Major Series NPPL, NXL, EXL, PSP and Millennium will be 90% of content (remember the best UK teams are playing and representing in some of these series). The remaining 10% would be national leagues.

If your going to use TV to promote the Sport you use absolutely it's highest echelon, in each format (including scenario such as the Shatner Big Games). You may want to see the league you play on TV, but interest for any UK domestic series whichever one, likely does not exceed 1000 people. Kinda limited TV appeal.

So now we start to cut to the chase, what is it TV for the sports promotion? or TV for self gratification? are Novices going to get more people interested in tournament play or Russian Legion doing Zen / Jedi ball? Do you envisage people queuing up to buy a Guildford Flyer Intimidator (sorry Tom Tom, first team I could think off), or a Russian Legion one.

Don't get me wrong. Domestic series are vitally important to the game (at a grass roots level), but do you really think it's ready to be used as the basis for promotion??? In the future when the PA represents the highest evolution of the UK game, and is producing world class teams bustin it out all over the world, TV will come knocking. Hell they'd have to pry my Guildford Flyer Intimidator from my cold dead fingers then.......
