true, but people with a PC and broadband can get digital paintball (mod of halflife, which rocks btw), and as competition will beat it easy as its free, only like a 5er for half life.
i havent got it, mate has, im too stingy to buy half life

too stingy to pay a fiver?? And as far as a pintball game goes, i like consoles 'cause i can sit on a sofa with some beer with my mates and play it, sooner than having to go inot seperate rooms to play on the LAN in my house (and even then we can only fit 3 people on it, because one of the PC's is too crap to play HL  )

I saw an early beta version of the game and it does look very very good. Greg and the guys making it are putting a lot of effort into it and the guys who actually make the game (programming and graphics) are true professionals with some big name games under their belt.

Will see how it will sell, I got my doubts also but let's hope Im wrong.

but i think a 1st person view would also be required .
1st person?.....no...no....no

3rd person would be the way to go, totaly. For soo many reasons. For example, if they were to do it properly then it would have to be marketed as a sports game..sports games are 3rd person because it would be necessary for overall team control. Taking direct control over individual players through a 1st person wouldnt work in this context. Also 3rd person would be the most ideal when you are going to be dealing with stance and position which are critical elements in 'ball.

I have a imense fully developed Game Design Document i wrote over a year ago that is still gathering dust on my hard drive. If only i had the skill, money and talent team neccesary to put it into production. Trust me....it's awesome :D

PS. I wouldn't belive a single word of these Xbox PB game rumours. Idealistic and inpractical as there really isnt the market for such a huge project. 9 out of 10 games that are developed never get released, so don't get your hopes up. I'm suprised PGI mentioned it in the latest issue without a single real fact.

EDIT- The SOCOM engine would suck for a PB game. It is too orentated for large terain and level of detail (LOD) management that would be uselss in a tourney ball game. We want something specific for the title, otherwise you'd get some thing messy and ham fisted like Digital Paintball (yeh i know its fun). You need somthing with a nice shiny rendering engine, deformable terraint ability (sup air being dented) and a fantastic aptitude for particles and other physics for the balls.

i think the most important aspect of a game like this would be the AI. its all well and good having great graphics, but if you have a team of 5/7/10, and you can only control one person at a time, you're screwed if the computer controlled players dont do a thing.

if they can make this work well, it will be an awesome game even without such a brilliant physics side or graphics.
im talking about seeing other guys on your team running past you making a run thru, the sort of thing you will see any player on dynasty etc do

this reminded me of the rainbow six set up. with commands for teams to move in. perhaps before a game, set plays can be made with each player zoing a certain place, or looking to move up a bunker or on a bunker run and so on.

damn, now im glad i chose engineering, this sounds wayyyyyy to complicated, could go on all day about things which would need to be included. lets hope they get it right :)

You're not a million miles away from one of the concepts in my design doc, just think a bit less Rainbow 6 and more like an American Football game.

AI in a pball game wouldnt be that complex to do actually, doesn't have to do anything too fancy and most can be script trees. I don't want to let on too much but my concept makes convincing AI an essential element as the (game)players control over his little computerised ballers is not as direct as you'd think. Only example that comes to mind currently is the lightsabre combat in Knights of The Old Republic.... but not quite as turn-based in the tradional sense.

Oh, and as far as player numbers are concerned....5 would be the best and most manageable i think. 5-man Xball format would be perfect.

Nothing, no press releases, no official comments, no nothing, all that there is are rumours and hearsay. Until we actually get somthing substantiated through an official channel, i wouldnt belive a word of it. Best not to get any false hopes up at this point.
