P2P Kazaa Law Suits

Just trying to make a point - people bitch to no end on this board about either sandbaggers/wipers/pro players/sponsored teams/whatever - but think nothing about stealing music.

If you think the artist sucks then don't buy their music - saying "I don't they are that good and not worth it, so I will steal it instead" is not the solution.

The recording industry charges the money they do - due to the fact that the market will bear it - so if people stop buying music then they will have no choice but to either re-think their pricing or come up with better music.

This in itself is a huge peccadillo of mine - the quality of music - and this isn't just because I'm getting old. How many remakes of songs do we have to listen to these days?? Hell a song is covered so quick, the original might be still in play when a new one comes out. Hell even the 80's (which most people laugh about when it comes to the songs) had better music than what os being relased now. This was before Poopstars/Idols/Whatevernewboygirlband.

And as far as someone bragging about 80 gigs worth of music - well that just means you have stolen (if they are stolen) what, 20.000 songs... that knocking you hear might be the RIAA knocking on your door.

if u take Apple's slight overestimate on sizes, yes, tho in practice it's slightly less at anything over 128kbps.

20000, at an average of 10-15 songs per album, is 1300-2000 albums... man, can you even LISTEN to that many Philip?! :D

It's taken me 3weeks to half-fill my iPod... and I'm already on the CDs I never listen to already.

I dont remember saying it was all music. Also, i dont remember saying i dont own some of the originals either.

I absolutly hate staggered release, and will not stop downloading, even if prosecuted, until it is changed. If i want a film and it is availble in the UK already, i will buy it, same with CD's.

And what about songs that would not be released to the public, but slip on to the internet, im glad they do, cos often they are good songs(like eminems drunken freestyle)

And a small note to others, the RIAA do not have permission from the UK ISPs to drag out information on you(but how are they doing this in the USA without breaking privacy protection act that you agree to when you sign up to your ISP?) so UK'ers are safe at the moment.

They do however already have access to the IP addresses of the biggest offenders on a certain well-known P2P network... which I no longer use (for legal OR illegal downloading) since being shown the work that has been done to compile this info. Will probably come to nothing, and I hope it doesn't, but I'm not taking chances. :(

So on a *slightly* different track, what are people's opnions on tv shows? They're also aired in the US before the UK, and is getting a mate to record a show in the US, posting it to you, then watching it, any different from you recording shows on your own video for viewing later?

How about if you then replace the "posting it" bit with "encode to digital video and send it over the internet"?

Where is the line drawn? :D

Kazaa Lite has RIAA IP blocker, you can choose not to share(theres no way of telling if you have anything[type 127.0.0.1 into a browser when kazaa is open....lists everything you have, but choose not to share and nothing appears])

As for QP and tv shows, if its digital, its good to go :D....they air it over digital tv, why cant we keep it like that ;)

And for people who say filesharing is stealing, have you never recorded something off tv? Never recorded the radio? Its the same thing, just one step behind :)

I ain't no thief, I like to think for the most part, I live quite an honest life but as I see it, and 'yes' baca, it is my decision, the record companies have been stealing from us for years under the euphemistic description of 'market forces'.
Bull 'frikkin' crap, they been raping us over here in the UK with regard to CD prices just so's their shareholders can stuff even more greenbacks in their already overflowing pockets; I will put my morals on the back shelf any day of the week to add another 70's track to my Ipod collection.

Two wrongs, I know, do not make a right but it makes me feel a whole lot better inside to know my ipod is filling up with freebies:)

If you borrow a cd off a mate you can copy the tunes to your hard drive and then to another cd. Kazaa works that one person offers his or her files to share with others. So one person can let hundreds of other people essentally borrow the files they already have.

Because the music industry wants you to pay for this music and not get it for free this has been deamed as stealing and I'm not disagreeing.

HOWEVER
I read in the paper that of the 200+ people getting sued for downloading music is a 12 year old girl for downloading nursery rhymes. Because of this she is being sued some unearthly amount. This may or may not be totally correct but it's what I've heard.

YES people do download / steal music but I don't think you can crack down on individuals. If the msuic industry really wanted to catch people they could go into any college in America and check students computers each with god knows how many illeagally downloaded songs.

The music industry could try and get rid of the file sharing software like they did with napster but another one will just pop up and really I don't think the music companies can win.
