???
Its any idea ill give you that but..... what colin surggested would be far more appealing to most baller's. lets think realistic here. people came to play( even if it is only 8 games) i dont think people would want to give the ms more money to to be coached on the sunday when the other teams are playing in the sunday club.
what might work is if you do a 3on3 for £30.00 a team with a cash prize to 1st and 2nd.

just my thoughts.

...the beauty of it is, it's not "either or" - the MS will probably have more than one field available for doing whatever Sunday - I'm just throwing another possibility into the mix

Its simple really:

100 teams play 10 games = 1000 games

Each field does say 80 games a day = 7 fields

9 Pro Judges per field = 63 Judges

Now we get

100 teams play 8 games = 800 games

Same 80 games a field = 5 fields

9 Pro Judges per field = 45 judges.

Thats 18 less judges to fly in, put in hotels, feed and pay.

Plus it is a lot easier (and therefore cheaper as market forces demand) to find venues that can host 5 fields rather than 7 fields.

Also set up and clear up costs (which ar some of promoters biggest expenses) are reduced.

Fianlly I would love to see where you get the idea that promoters are coining it in, from what i hear the NPPL lost money at every event last year and they have more teams, bigger sponsorship, higher entry fee AND ONLY 8 PRELIM GAMES!!!!

Commit one or two players from each Pro team, to do a "Pro School" on one of the fields on Sunday, if they are knocked out in the prelims?

The MS could even have a fixed schedule for that thing, so that whatever Pros tought the class, just had to read what was up next, and then teach it.

Isn't it bad enough that you are out of the sunday club,NO! on top of that we have to pay so Nick can tell us how bad our tecnique is:D

thought the plan was to increase the team limit to 160?

160 teams play 8 games = 1280 games

Same 80 games a field = 8 fields

9 Pro Judges per field = 72 judges.

this aint including sunday club

so in the words of the fun loving teen UK baller - u suck!

All of a sudden your boys will find a whole new level of motivation in the prelims!

"If we don't qualify, you have to listen to Nick all Sunday"

:p ;)

Nick

(well - actually... you guys may end up tutoring yourselves, as it were, because I plan to qualify every damn time ;))

Interesting discussion so far....

1. Refs are paid by the day, not the hour. Believe me, I wish I got paid by the hour...

1a. Someone made a comment about Pro refs being anything but professional, that they're just washed up/frustrated players. Not to single anyone out on this but - you don't know me and you don't know jack **** about who I am or why I do this. If you want, i can start making general remarks about the level of cheating I see from most pros....
but I digress.

2. The open/rec play field idea was tried at Paris last year. From what I remember it was pretty popular there, as I saw it in use all weekend long.

3. Personally, I think obsessing on the cost per game misses the point of attending a major national event. It should be about the experience (for younger/lower level teams) and testing your skills against other teams (for higher level teams). What value do you place on experience or quality of play?

But that's just my $0.02. I've enjoyed the Mill events I've attended so far and hope I can talk Steve into bringing me over again this year.

That was Toye. :p

Refsmack--I like it!

That seems to be exactly the question that is being asked. Assigning a monetary value to it on a per game basis is simply one way to begin trying to make a judgment. It also seems apparent that at least some MS players, given recent past experience, and this change aren't so sure it is worth it.

Presuming Steve doesn't find himself under the bus.

I like the idea of playing an event with international opposition and i will gladly pay to play such an event. I am not an exceptionally brilliant player, but i represent a lot of millennium players who are the same. We pay to play and enjoy watching good teams play. As players we go to play primarily, but what the millennium is giving us is more time watching at the same cost.
So we are getting less of what we want, so obviously we don't count much.
Having better facilities, etc, is ok, but you have got to make it worth our while to attend in the first place.
But then we aren't important really are we?
Until we don't turn up

Planet Piper away from you freaks!
Some of the points on this thread are great some how ever are not!

A few people have doen some calculations and said this that and the other, well what about the Millennium Series coming on and saying something. I mean we are the paying customers after all.

Is that such a bad thing to ask? I know they read the boards but no one has said anything.

The Millennium Series feel that such an association is very important for the sport and especially to enable the Series to improve on things the players (our customers) need. (taken from the press release sent around.

Oh and look it says we are there customers! Yet they do not come on here and speak to us! Oh hold on why should they? They are the Millennium Series and they rule the world!

I also have another question, crock o sheet, why defend them so much?

Still I guess we just have to put up or shut up, so I for one won't be giving them any of my cash this year! Not that it really matters in the long run anyway.

Piper
