If only it were as simple (and weak as that!!)

NPPL did it as a hang over from 10 man I guess. The customer was used to 8 games and didnt expect any more.

The MS have set a standard that they should champion.

100 teams playing 8 games is 350 games

You can run around 60 seven minute games in a day on one field (6 per hour), so the MS maximum saves 1 field if they don't get more teams entered by cutting the number of games per team.

I stand corrected Nick, please forgive me for being so Millennium like (or stupid whichever :D )

Uh, 100 teams playing 8 games is 400 games.

Or you could just note that 8 is 20% les than 20, so it's 20% fewer games no matter how many teams there are. So if you needed 5 fields before, you'll need 4 fields now.

20% reduction in the cost of fields and refs, given the same number of teams.

That's the classic formula for 10 team round robin, which means 9 games/team. Where do you get your 10th game from?

Help us mathematically challenged

I must be thick too at this time in the morning

If I'm promised 8 games and the rest of the teams are promised 8 games too, we get 8x100 teams = 800 games. Since every game involves 2 teams we divide and get 400.

This is not the case:

If team "A" needs to play 10 teams, thats 9 games (obviously)
since they are promising 8 games, not groups of 8 teams playing round robin.

Then again, bear with me, I just jumped out of bed ;D
