But Duff - do you honestly think US paintball will allow itself to be limited to 3 major events in a season - and then 2 in Europe?

I just don't see that happening.

If it COULD happen - I'd be all for it - let there be no doubt about that..... because a lot of Europ teams would have the budget for 5 majors in a year, 3 of them stateside..... but again.... I find it hard to believe that 10 major events would be cut down to 3 in the US, to allow European paintball to be part of a global league.

As for US teams getting more budget to come across, because of fewer events in the US.... well - won't that happen anyway?

Sorry Nick, not making myself clear. I think there will be 5, maybe even 7 majors over there, but Mill events will be series events, so the big teams will play all the domestic and all the millennium tournaments and cherry pick their best scores, the other teams will pick and choose according to budgets, expected strength of field etc.

Remember the bigger picture though, budgets will likely be getting slashed for many teams anyway - this will give a solid financial incentive to play Europe.

Anyway, unfortunately reunification isn't going to happen I don't think, so it's all moot.

Getting Up Again
Chicago -

I DID NOT cut myself (lol) - I'm playing a much more rewarding and much funner game these days: yelling and screaming and kicking tournament player butt all over the place, no paint expense and I NEVER get shot (how many of you can say the same?).

The team meeting went fine - very little sobbing and crying. As an aside to this discussion;

this new team was not jelling as a team; good players, potential, etc - just no team. I told them that there's no standard way to achieve this - but they have to work at making it happen - thursday nite poker, a trip to the bordello, whatever.

This past weekend, someone picked a fight with one of them (on field) and now we don't need to worry about jelling anymore.

Anyhow:

As a sport, paintball has so much going for it: it IS international in scope, it appeals to the number on demographic world-wide, it has the potential to become the worlds ONLY professional co-ed sport (100% ofd sports viewers will find it appealing

so much potential - so much politics preventing it from realizing that potential.

Others have said its not the format, some have said it is. Bottomline, people have to stop being wedded to what IS and find out what is NEEDED before its really going to go anywhere.

Throw the baby out with the bath water and start from scratch.

Hey,

I didn't mean to kill the thread...

how about some controversy to ramp things up again?

what does the television camera want?

movement & blood (or the possibility of the same)

what do sports fans want?

personalities they can identify with

what does a broadcaster want?

something that fits within their narrow definition of a product that will attract advertisers, and fits into their regular time slots.

what do paintballers want?

a fair game that involves pulling their trigger a lot
nice looking women
hot tech
a free ride

Put that together and you've got something.

PS: Genesis format is CHEAPER to play, has lots of movement, fits into broadcasters definitions, and offers the possibility of physical contact.

Paintball sucks.

PSP-Millennium-CFOA-NPPL-NCPA will never unite

Pete Robinson is NOT attractive in a tutu.

Paintball Sports magazine Rocks

Europe is in the OLD world, the US is in the NEW world

Martha Stewart should still be in jail

Hurricane Wilma will not affect the World Cup - but dwarves will

sorry - too early in the am to be REALLY nasty

Yep, but it's named after a **** prog rock band that spawned Phil Collins (shudders). Can't you rename it Gong, or Yes, or Rush? How about Van de Graaf GeneratorBall?

OK StevieD, riddle me this; why is Richmond seemingly incentivising reunification if it may mean the XBall brand going down the pan?

To put in thier pockets of course. What is left over after a budget is known as profit. Thats what the teams want after all.

If one standard paintball format is being ofered up to the public, then everyone is heading in the same direction. One of the things that everyone agrees is holding Paintball back (from what is another matter of course) is having 3 groups pulling in different directions. Direction is essential in any business/sport/industry/whatever. Thats one of the things that is lacking, and a unified, instantly identifiable and understandable game has so far escaped us.

of course it is better for the industry. I think it is also better for the teams, and there is no doubt in my mind that it is better for the game.

I see no valid argument if people legitimately want progress. I think most people do want this. Agenda's have to be put down for this to happen.

1--What if it's the wrong direction? Is that still "progress"?
2--Competition for what is best in Paintball is the least of the "problems" Paintball faces.
3--Better for the game? What stake does the game have in all this? And do you really want to argue that having one game one option one choice is really best for the teams?
4--I can only infer that you define "progress" as that which suits you. (which is of course your prerogative.) :)
