Europe (Millennium) will not in my judgment adopt XBall though it may well adopt XBall 'lite' but I don't think anything will be finally decided until such times as something concrete (whichever way it goes) comes outa the NPPL / PSP talks.

This is the best strategy to adopt because anything else just exposes us to possible disharmony with any new world order.

Nick is right though in that there's a lot that can happen between now and the start of the new season.

In the meantime, we wait.........

X ball in the sense of what Gary Shows is talking about for the MS is a non starter. The problems associated with running X Ball are as valid now as they were last season, as little has changed.

A loosely based X Ball lite type format is far more likely to happen for the CPL next season.

Playing Div 1 in the coming season, I certainly hope Div 1 will play the same format as CPL.

The teams trying to qualify for the CPL, should be playing the same format - so that the teams that qualify for CPL 2007 are the teams that are best at the CPL format - not at some other format :)

Therefore tha teams playing D2 should be playing tha same format, cos they're trying to qualify for D1 2007, so they should be the best teams in that format, not some other format.

Therefore tha teams playing D3...

Ad infinitum.

That's what I've said all along - the MS should not jump to any conclusions - but wait and see what happens in the US.

IF the format is the right one for European paintball - which (for instance) full X-Ball is certainly not - then we should use the same format.

There are certain people in the PSP camp who have become convinced that all of paintball's problems will be fixed by a move to XBall Lite. They've heard too many people say "Well, uh, we don't play XBall because it uses too much paint."

Unfortunately, these guys havn't figured out yet that most players are morons, and you definitely can't believe something just because it's what you hear the loudest complainers saying the most. Paint consumption is definitely not the reason they don't play XBall, and even if it is, it's not something that XBall Lite solves. At best, they don't play XBall because either the ROSTER is too big, or because it's not easy for them to practice it. PSP will be in a whole world of hurt if they scrap 5-man for X-Lite, but it's sounding like they may need to learn that the hard way.

As for Millenium - if you guys adopt XBall Lite instead of real XBall, doesn't that just prove once and for all that Europe can't compete with the US?

Maybe you guys need to do REAL XBall, only trim the maximum roster down to 10 or 12. If everyone only has 10 guys, it's fair, and you don't REALLY need more than 10 to play X anyway. (Unless you ahve too many fat/old farts on your team.)

Chicago:

For the sponsored European teams, it's not a question of consumption per player.

It's a question of your paint budget as a team being too small to be able to play X-ball.

Add to that, that most European teams would find it hard convincing sponsors to gear up a roster large enough to play X-ball at a serious level.

Well - that is just stating the obvious - isn't it ? ;)

At any rate - the problem European teams have, is that sponsorships are WAY below what they are in the US - and that means budgets are simply not there to do X-Ball in a serious way.
