I agree with Chi-town on this. I also think the ball consumption argument is totally appropriate to this thread since when considering the future playing format the myth needs to be dispelled once and for all:

X Ball per se doesn't cause more paintball consumption than other formats. It is playing time and perhaps the average ROF that dictate how many paintballs are consumed. The other factors are minimal IMO.

Playing time can be tweaked as in X Ball Lite and the gun modes are an entirely separate matter.

Well DUH !

Ofcourse a team shoots more paint in an X-ball match, than in a 7 man game.

I don't hear ANYONE advocating standard X-ball as the format for the future either - at least not in terms of Europe..... we have long since established that it is much too costly.... especially if we want a format that can be used at all levels of play and in any league (which I certainly HOPE the rest of you agree we SHOULD look for?).

As for the whole defensive/aggressive issue - I still fail to see how it pertains to this debate - and am yet to hear why Steve put the issue in the debate in the first place?

Because Steve thinks it's a reason to use his format? ;)

I still don't even know what the "genesis" format is, beyond that it keeps getting mentioned in Steve's posts. Are there rules for this posted somewhere?

Chicago,

Justification for orientation of game discussion in this thread:

'all offense' is inherently more interesting visually than 'all defense'. a successfull format should be a balanced game which nevertheless provides constant action. A format that emphasizes offense will do that better than our current defensively oriented game.

Longest post in the world? Fortunately for you all, I hate rewriting, so we're going to skip that for now.

The rules and even video of the format are available in various places on the web. You're familiar with most of it from watching x-ball's gutted version - multi periods, penalty boxes, mobile flag, game stops for penalties, field layout allows any given camera to see 90+% of the entire field and sensible visual aids are used to focus viewers on the action and transmit the status of the game.

So what makes it so much cheaper than Xball?
