another twist?!

Taken from PBN

...One current rule under consideration for change is the restriction to true semi-automatic operation. With the use of microprocessor-based electronics in most modern tournament level paintguns, cheating by increasing the rate of fire past the number of trigger pulls is a serious concern. Software can potentially be set up to not filter out trigger switch noise, or even simply add shots when a player achieves a certain rate of fire, or taps a predetermined sequence on the trigger.

While devices like the Super 7?s trigger robot can catch a paintgun that is operating illegally while it is in that illegal mode, they can?t unlock a cheater mode hidden in the software. Since a board with cheater software installed in it looks no different than a board with legal software, even and fair enforcement of true semi-auto operation is a very impractical process, if not impossible under present tournament formats.

Presently, different versions of paintgun operation and trigger rules are being considered by the NXL?s rules committee to address this issue. One suggestion on the table is that rate of fire and trigger cycling simply be ignored. If the various boost, turbo, and ramping modes are made legal, they won?t be a concern for enforcement.

Rumors have been recently circulating on Internet message boards claiming that such a rule change has already been made, but according to Commissioner Ratko, those rumors are false. Ratko told WARPIG.com, ?The NXL(tm) has not changed any rules regarding markers at this time. We are trying to find a way to address the cheating issue with
the markers? We are expecting some language shortly that will be reviewed by the rules committee. If the rules committee finds the language and the rule acceptable, it will be forwarded to all the teams for final ballot.?

Boog,
So far the league office is not confirming any change. I inquired about this "rumored" change with regards to an article I'm writing for everyone's favorite PB mag in which the Commish states no decision has been made. The league has further confirmed that position in a statement to Porky von Clausewitz (Warpig for the uninitiated).

So, officially no change--yet. Unofficially, well . . . ;)

Bottomline line is this, the league wont be considered professional until the Playing ground is the same and EVERYONE is using the same equiptment.
True professional sports teams dont use different equiptment.

Football-each team doesnt use a different ball
Baseball-Players use the same basbeballs although Players use different bats,They are still ALL non-mechanically regulated(far cry from bouncing paintball markers)
Basketball-Same Basketball

The problem is are sport has mechanically enhanced equiptment similiar to Nascar and the only true way to regulate and penalize cheats is the same way nascar does and that is to strip down each and every gun used in the match, but we all know that could never happen financially or time wise.
so basically, keep playing, cheat on and hopefully your one of the very few who gets caught because the sport isnt even close to being professional

Had an interesting conversation at practice today with someone closely related to the NXL. This person confirmed the new relaxed trigger bounce rules. They also said that they won't be chronoing markers any more in the NXL, which, if true, sounds completely assinine to me. That's just asking for a serious injury to a player or ref, which this person agreed with.

Hopefully the NXL owners are reading some of the internet feedback and rethinking their position on the bounce and chrono rules.

That's only true when you want it to be.

Football players use different cleats. They use different pads.

Baseball sucks.

Basketball players use different shoes.

You analaogies above are more like saying paintballers don't use the same paint. Which to most purposes they do. They are no huge differences between brands that give an advantage to one or another consistently.

There are many professional sports where people use different equipment. Tennis, golf, F1, Rally, all come to mind.

Anywhere where technical equipment gives an advantage you find people using different equipment, following tight rules, or using 'one design' equipment.

They have to keep chronoing. They would be stupid not to.

You think if they can't be trusted to not to cheat with electronic guns that they can be trusted to make sure they run safe velocities?

The Point was

In my post, the point was the paintball markers we use are mechanically enhanced thus allowing for illegal modifications with limited chances to get caught. After each race in Nascar, the drivers or crew arent allowed to touch the cars. They go to a warehouse where each car is fully inspected for possible illegal mods and if caught is DQ'd from the race.Unfortunately our sport has been promoted and ran by non-brainiacs with profits in mind.So until our sport has set rules on equiptment and a way to check and enforce the rule violating markers,it will never be considered a true professional sport. In a society that some already has us labeled as michievous or even going as far as labeling as somewhat terrorist, you cant have some of these paintball idiots running around with fully automatic paintball guns and expect us to be mainstream soon. There are to many cheating morons in this sport for the mainstream scene to take us serious.Get rid of most of the Cheats,Get set rules and Find a way to check and enforce rules on the markers and the mainstream scene will be more easily accesible
