This same thing happened to me except the 'hit' i got was on my hopper and from the way it was all smudged it was blaintly bunker rub and the other team were using a completely different coloured paint..?! But hey, sometimes i think you will get bad calls.

You either gotta except it and walk, or argue with the marshall. TO A EXTENT. Cus' u don't want to b 1-4-1'd for taking it too far with a marshall. ;) :D

Case number three: Ady, (he was our back right player), gets pulled because of a dribble of green paint on his knee. 1-4-1’d, actually, which means the marshal wasn’t doing his job and watching the game. We argued the point that the mark was hardly a hit - much, much more likely he knelt onto a ball and it broke on his playing pants- but no, he’s called out and another of our players with him. Then we find out the other team are shooting yellow paint, not green. But the marshal refuses to admit he’s made a mistake.
This was meant to be quoted on my post above but it didn't work for some reason.

I've only read the initial post, but I'd just like to say:

The post seemed to be introducing itself as being about the automatic 1-4-1 rule. There are sensible arguments both in favour of and against the rule, but to be honest I didn't see one of them raised in the initial post. What constitutes a hit (the knelt on ball) has got nothing to do with this rule. It’s a separate issue, as are any problems with the reffing. If there was anything in there directly relating to the rule I missed it because it was mixed in with everything else.

And finally, if you are unhappy with something, yes you have a right to free speech and to bitch about it on forums. But you can sometimes get more achieved by speaking to the people involved, or posting about it in a more civil manner.

if a marshall finds you with paint on you that he / she thinks is a hit it is a 1-4-1.. it doesn't matter where you claim to have got it from,

if the marshalls took the players word every time that it is off the barricade, I knelt in it, but I shot him first, there not shooting this colour paint etc, then some people would never be out !

If you kneel on a ball or rub against some paint you should call a marshall in to wipe it off or to make him aware of it... then if he calls it as a hit you are out (no 1-4-1 as you called a check, you weren't found playing on with a paint on you that is called as a hit)

if you do not call for a check and are found with paint on you that is called as a hit then you have been playing on and should be 1-4-1'd.. this is nothing new just making sure it's enforced.

Also 99% of the time you know paint has been fired at you if you think it may have been really near to your hopper or pack then call a check - again no 1-4-1 as you called a check.

This rule makes sense , people have complained for ages that the cheaters are not being punished, then once it is clamped down upon people moan because they were pulled out after continuing to play with paint on them.

It's simple.. if you do not continue to play after being hit by a paintball or having a paint on you that looks like a hit then you will not be 1-4-1'd.

Marshalls do a really hard job and the only thing you can do is take the rough with the smooth.. you will probably get the benefit of the doubt more times than calls go against you, just accept the marshals call - they do not intentionally try to fcuk you over .. you can raise constructive criticism in a calm way after the game.. acting like a dcik will not help you out next time with the benefit of the doubt calls.

sorry for the lengthy reply, but I think its just silly that people complain after being called out after the marshall finds paint on them.

Dan.

Hi steve, in reply to your post. The whole point of this whole thing was to start a discussion (which it has) on weather the 141 rule is good or bad, and weather the quality of the marshallng can effect that decission. I know this thread is now very lengthy, but it is very good reading. Please go over the thread to get an accurate picture.

My two pence..........

I find it hard to believe people post up problems they have when they dont consult the people involved initially, Nick you know i love you, but c'mon dude maybe you could of spoke to Syd on a one on one basis first before expressing your feelings in the nature you did?

With regards to the rule itself, surly the rule should only be enforced when said player is trying to hide deny the fact they have been hit, not when a player doesnt know has been hit.

Ie player wipes, hides "splat" yeah okay pull him and 1 4 1, but if a player doesnt know he has been hit, and a marshall is standing next to him, then 30 seconds later the marshall decides to pull him and 1 4 1, is that fair?

I did watch one game and i was quite suprised, some guy was in the snake doing quite well, then some guy on the right back tape noticed him and lit up the snake cube, the marshall then pulled the player in the snake (may i add this player had not been shot at this time) who then got shot on the hopper, then for some bizzare reason the marshall also then pulled another one of the said players team 141. I know, makes no sense.

But hey everyone makes bad calls, and as previously said thats paintball, we play the sport we must accept the rulings.

Anyway my piece said, and no i am not wishing to insult anyone.

Anthony (the annoying one)

Hello

Hi Ant, hows things mate. If you look at my second entry on this thread you will see that on Monday i had a phone conversation with Syd. We discussed all events listed and put them to bed. Anyway, are you coming to reading, and do you want to train with us between now and then.

LET'S BE CONTROVERSIAL :D

I may have to change my views slightly ;) as i can now see a need for the 'Auto 1-4-1 rule' ;) some of you may not like it

If Refs are Players without guns and they then become Players without scruples i can see the need to break the cycle.

PLAYER = REF : PLAYER = CHEAT : REF = PLAYER

The only way the 1-4-1 rule will work is if it is implemented consistently. In my first experience of the 1-4-1 rule the marshalling was highly inconsistent, and I base this on playing and watching the games.

Teams collectively pay a vast amount of money to play a game they enjoy, but to enjoy it to the full the rules have to be applied fairly and consistently.

I believe that to ensure the game is enjoyable for the future that the marshalls should be fully versed on the 1-4-1 rule and how to apply it i.e. only 1-4-1 for the right reasons. Unfortunately I was 1-4-1'nd mostly for clearly bad calls, but once the decision is made there needs to be the right to appeal that could actually result in compensation for bad calls e.g. those 1-4-1'nd by mistake are reinstated on the score sheet.

What are your thoughts on appealing against bad decisions and compensation points/void games?

However, in favour of poor marshalling of the 1-4-1 rule our team hardly used any paint so we've got plenty left for training! There's always good in bad.
