At first, it will cost a little bit of money. But, the way NASO and LOAN are set up, the refs (eventually) would be living near the event, so costs would be much lower in the long run.

LOAN is a network of officials. So, if there's an event in - say - Pittsburgh, all the LOAN officials in that area would be brought in.

Bryan,

correct; not to mention that out of their thousands of members, there will undoubtedly be many who will want to add 'paintball officiating' to their resume and who would receive cross-training through a paintball officials training program.

Folks,

I emailed the petition to all of the print magazines and asked that they run it - or at least mention of a link to it

interesting response from face full magazine: someone responding to their 'info@face-full.com' email address sent this:

"Funny you mention this, one is being created as we speak and should be operational in December. Will keep you posted."

Funny one is being put together and we don't know about it?

I'm all for this - obviously - but I think that the players and teams are entitled to a little more info on this project.

Is this Euro only? World-Wide? What criteria have been established to guarantee non-bias?

I really just want to know, because if this is a real thing, we can stop the petition and throw our efforts behind this as yet unnamed opportunity...

Calm down, calm down. Go back and say that OURS
is operational next Wednesday. It'll up the ante. That's bound to get em thinking.

Now that I'm back from Miami and caught up at work, I finally have time to catch up on here. After reading this whole thread (and skipping most of Raehl's drivel  ), I just have a couple of comments. I'm responding to a lot of previous posts, so this might get a little long....

re: reffing bias

A couple of people have mentioned the need for an impartial reffing group and I agree with that. However, I think the current NPPL reffing group is about as impartial as you're going to get. As an NPPL ref, I know the guys who work these events and I don't know of any who have industry ties. They work at fields, they play at the local level, some even played at the national level. But none of them are in the pocket of any major team, sponsor or organization. WDP and Pure Promotions may ultimately pay us, but they don't tell us what to do on the field. Implying otherwise is just wrong.

re: Rage and the fight

My field had just finished for lunch on Friday and I sent a couple of refs to help out other fields, so one of my refs was actually among the first guys to jump in to help break up the scuffle. When he told me there was a fight, my first question was "who did Rage beat up?" The only surprise was that they started the crap on Friday; they usually wait until Saturday to start. Personally, I think anyone who left the deadbox should have been kicked out of the event. Letting them keep playing was just plain wrong. Nexus players didn't get involved so there was no reason to boot them. Politics, politics, politics - I can guess who the rules committee member was who wanted to eliminate both Rage and Nexus. Nick is right - the NPPL Disciplinary Committee is a joke.

re: Robbo

I saw you on your way to the back just after the fight and he was already making jokes about it. Glad to hear nothing was seriously busted.

Just so there's no misunderstanding - I applaud your efforts to set up a truly independant reffing body for the sport. I think it's an excellant idea and hope it comes off.

And yes, I've signed the petition ;) :D :D

rancid,

nothing to calm down from - I'm not upset about anything. All I've done so far is to write a few emails and a few paragraphs.

And I certainly don't want anyone to misunderstand my post about the email from face-full: I was NOT attacking the effort that they mentioned.

If they have a legitimate independent reffing organization - then I'd love nothing more than to be able to change the petition from one asking for such a thing to one that asks when and how we can get the major tournament leagues to adopt it.

In the meantime though, I'd appreciate some additional detail from them so that the effort can continue and be focused where it belongs, instead of split and confused.

In order to prevent any confusion, I'm going to continue forward with the petition effort until such time as I learn of about something that would render it moot.

Dannefaerd - yes yes yes - please post it in NZ. If this leads to an international reffing crew, so much the better, as standards will be in place across the board, and it will help lead to further expansion.
