I just got up and am probably going back to bed after I wrote this but I thought I had better post something.
On the flight home last nite, I wrote the Chi Town article and you can bet your ass I wrote about what happened to us.
It seemed like I was punching the letters into my laptop.
I felt sick to the bone about what was done to my guys.
I have been around for a long time in this game and seen many similar things happen, though perhaps not too many as bad as this one, but as Simon (Manike) succinctly reminds us all, the Preds had something done to them with similar injustice when they went stateside once.
Anyway, the point is, I felt so sorry for my team-mates, they worked so hard to get where they have, they train, they live, they die this sport.
Most of the guys on the team have never encountered such a blatant disregard of common sense or justice.
They were absolutely shell-shocked by it all.
Thank f#k for Ledz and Jack being there as my head would have blown off at one point had he not ushered me away and he then took over proceedings giving me time to cool down before I went back into it again.
Nexus is a big part of all our lives, I am immensely proud of every single one of my players, even Bowen
So, you can imagine what was being written down on that flight home last nite.
This morning, I got up to find an email in my inbox from the head judge, he apologises and admits he made an error...the wind in my sails just died a little...I am now going to have re-write the article, which I suppose is not such a bad thing.
After it all died down, the next day, we had time to collect our thoughts and the effect on the team was immediate.
All, they and myself, wanna do, is get back on that training field, get back to wat we are about, and never allow that opportunity to happen again.
We will now be working even harder to get us up there, we ain't there yet I know, we got another year of graft to do before anytihng like that happens.
And I wanna make one final point, take me outa the Nexus equation for one second, the players who go to make up the playing squad, as reprentatives of paintball and England, behaved and played out of their skin.
They got everybody's respect on the field, and when the sh1t went down and everybody realised what had happened to them, they earned even more respect for they way they conducted themselves off the field afterwards.
Sure gave me a lesson to admire, I can't say enough about my guys.
Back to work...
