Name and Shame

I think its fair to say that while naming and shaming, on the face of it, seems a worthy means of curbing the ever increasing instances of rule breaking it is obvious that it simply wont work.

Political ranglings, team loyalties, and mud slinging would prevail and the system would quickly become as useless as the current attitude to rule enforcement. It is only when the tournament organisers, under one uniform body, act as one against a player caught and convicted by a disciplinary board, that we will be able to combat the one side of the game that ruins it for everyone.

We also need to wake up to the fact that marshalls are gonna have to be separated from players, and become a proffesional organisation sometime soon. Forget the practicalities of such an organisation, forget how difficult this would be. It HAS to happen for the rules and the punishments to be seen as fair and unbiased. This way any player caught cheating, an act that is witnessed by more than one marshal, can be dealt with then and there without the team being able to claim that the marshal doesnt know the rules or is being influenced politically. Any more serious infringements can then be reffered to the DC and appropriate action taken with the knowledge that the act was witnessed by an independent body.

At the moment there are an abundance of players that may play good ball but couldnt marshal a tournament to save their lives because their knowledge of the rules differs from game to game.

If we want to take this sport seriously and have it seen on TV then we need to get serious about what is happening and wake up to our obligations to sort it out proffesionally. Otherwise we are always going to be a part time hobby and never the sport we could be.

Okay coming from a team that has a zero tolerance on cheating I can say that the entire tem plays clean and fair, to a point when a player not noticing a hit on himself is shouted at across the field from another team member that he is eliminated. When we do feel cheated by a team then we might have a little grumble but don't chase things up to a point of nameing and shameing. After all whats the point you just get a grudge building from the team in question. So even if we are cheated and know it, we still go up and shake the hands of the other team and thank them. Its not up to us to point out cheats its up to the team captain/manager to point it out, and if they encourage cheating then thats up to them.
If they have to win a event by cheating then so be it.
Hell if we wanted to follw this rule then we have an old school woodland player a hand who can tell us how to lose hits without trying, but whats the point in that. Would you want to be on a team that somebody down the pub is spouting off about the great wipe he did during a game, instead of a great move he pulled.

So in my eyes: Cheating is for losers.;)

Good idea, but probably wouldn't have much of an effect...... every dive in soccer is a blatant cheat but they do it as a matter of course, we acccept it........but think about it, the slightest bump and down they go...if it was that easy to knock a man over, rugby would be unplayable. But they do it every time, we accept it and no-one cares either way. You could name and shame some people, they'd be mortified, others would be proud of it. We need penalties that mean something, but for that we need a nationwide league with consistent, regualted marshaling. Are you going to accept being banned for three games on the word of a marshal who's at his first tourney?

The opportunity to cheat has never arisen, wiping off the concealed hit on my knee would not diminish the 30 others on my goggles and upper body.
When I get taken out, I get taken out.
