I would agree that it will probably be reduced to just 5 Events:

Toulouse
Campaign cup
Max
Malaga
Amsterdam

The number of events last year was too many and this was reflected in the poor attendence at some of the venues.

The next question that begs to be asked is:

If the NPPL do have an interest in any of the above what, if any, difference will it make? Will thay stage a better show than has been previously? If so, why are the Millennium organisors unable to do this themselves?

Like many other players, I'm not too interested in the 'politics' that are being played out 'behind the scenes' as, realistically, it would only affect us if the Events were cancelled. EXL and Open X-Ball are really not open to the majority of Teams, mainly due to cost and commitment, so if either or both are cancelled it will only impact on a select few Teams. (or am I being shortsighted/narrow-minded?)

Not shortsighted or narrow-minded but following a popular myth. Division X Ball is probably not any more expensive than 7-man. It is true you could use more bodies but if you can get a couple of more players then the costs get divided by more people.

There is also talk of a "lite" version of X Ball with a little less maximum game time and with declaring the team that reaches five points first the winner.

Why throw away X Ball when it is definitely growing in America? Division X Ball at the World Cup was a definite success with almost 70 teams, lots of crowds, lots of excitement and pretty damn good reffing for the most part.

This opens up the possibility of some all-X Ball tourneys more compact sites. This is something that might happen in Europe and could be successful if promoted and executed properly.

x-ball will return in 2006 to Europe I think, we cannot ignore its popularity in the US... a purely 7-man year in 2005.

however-

wadidiz said we ain't got a clue in which case my predictions aren't worth the webspace they're hosted on.

What I meant to say with being gob-smacked is the possible rearrangement of alliances being discussed which took me by surprise. Some of the rumors I heard and ideas I heard put forth didn't occur to me to be possible before.

As I understand it there are some meetings going on this weekend that could decide things more concretely. And some people say that the final outcome won't be known until after San Diego. Then there is the possible influence of ESPN TV ratings in December.

I had almost given up on X Ball in Europe which wasn't easy on me because so many players at Campaign Cup and Malaga asked me about X Ball next year and I couldn't give any answers. And this is a project that I put a lot of energy into for the past two seasons.

At the same time I was in charge of the reffing which included 7-man and some cooperation with NPPL and NPPL teams. I have always been a supporter of NPPL Super 7 and feel pretty close to a lot of people in that scene including the Birmingham lads. I have pushed (unsuccessfully) for total uniformity of rules between NPPL and Millennium 7-man and for closer cooperation.

But, I support X Ball as the superior pro format.

I don't know what's going to happen with NPPL in Europe. I'm sure it will be great and I imagine that they will have a more arena/spectator-friendly format for the pros.

Besides what I've seen here and despite the scepticism, I have heard some talk about a new, more whole-hearted approach to X Ball in Europe as at least a possibility. Perhaps it is a Dreamworld like Repairman says to Naffy Nerd but the serious discussions were real. It might not happen but I don't think it can be written off yet.

So there seems to be major movements in the Force and I'm hearing so many different ideas that I really wish I could have Mama Lambini's crystal ball for an evening. (I'd pay a hefty rental fee.) I want to know what the hey I'm going to be doing next season, if anything.

I do know what is happening (sorry Steve, I know you hate it when I know stuff) or rather what the plan is.

All I will say is that if there is to be X-ball next year, it will most likely be run by someone else, not what is conventionally called the 'Millennium' at the moment. It will be an interesting and very exciting year. There will be splits, there will be unhappy people, but I don't think the players will be unhappy. I think we will see another surge in Euro-paintball next year, which will be good for everyone.
I can't really speak for whether there will be any X-ball at all or not, but if there is, it will not be tagged on to the millennium as it was this year.
I don't think the way it was done this year was the best way of doing it, this is justified by looking at the fact that in reality both formats have suffered in Europe, as no clear direction has been taken one way or the other.
05 will see the end to indecisiveness, which means both formats can move on with the full support of whoever is steering the separate ships. Separate being the operative word.

Don't get me wrong. Just because I get irritated sometimes with some of your posts doesn't mean I don't appreciate the information you can bring to the picture. On the contrary.

You've just confirmed the direction I thought things were taking. As I hinted at in another thread I too think European PB will move in a very positive direction next season. And you're right: it will be much better with clear format commitments rather than doing any of it halfway.

NO!

If they irritate you so much, stop asking me to get out of my 'ivory tower' as this would result in me disappearing along with my secret identity.
You can't have it all ways...

hmm, ...

As far as I heard, things will get clearer after the Diego event, players and paintball as a whole will heavily benefit from what will go on next year.
