Mashalling problems at Max Masters

I think one of the main problems with the marshalling consists of marshalls having too much respect for PRO teams.

I'll give one example :

We(Team Severe (AM division)) are playing against Joy division on field 4 (diablo field).

Joy is 6 players down and so are we, the last joy division player's armband is removed by a marshall (so this means they are all eliminated right!), but after a lot of shouting from this player and a
big row on the field. he is put back in again. even thought he has an big mark on his left shoulder (which he claims is from sliding against a bunker).

If you are a player from an amateur team and you would start mouthing of to a marshall like that you would get sent of the field and get penalty points, but because they are pro they can get away with that.

Marshalls should be better trained for this kind of situation, Maybe having PRO marshalls(paid) and not teams marshalling would be an option?

This was the only bad thing about MAX MASTERS, everything else was perfect, so hope to see you guys there next year.

Greetings,

Tubbie (TEAM SEVERE)

Heh I had a situation like that :))

We played against Camp Tigers we had 5 they had 1 in the right back.

My humble person were hauling ass to the flag knowing the guy was there. Our right tape man shot the last CT player and the guy was called neutral for checking the hit by a marshall.
I've gone to get the flag gun pointed to the CT player then he shot me while he was neutral.
I said mmmkay Im out althrough it was unfair from him, and walked back to the deadbox. I've smiled on the way watching as my teammates who saw that lit him ruthlessly up in exchange for that.

Well our end game was a little different, when they guy from joy division was but back in again. he shot out our player (who had already gone to the opposite flag base and was brought back to the original bunker). he then took the flag and was gonna hang it but time ran out for him.

The Millenium rules state clearly that when an armband is removed from a player this player has to leave the field directly and go to his dead zone, and not start to argue with the marshall for over a minute.

Tell ya what tubbie...

... I have a lot more respect for a marshal that can admit that he maybe pulled an armband too early - before checking things completely and screwing up a game for a team.

A perfect example - and it is relevant because it is almost the same situation you described.

The Ugly Ducklings where playing the Daltons on field 5 (Tomahawk field) and I was in one of the cones at the back. Anyone who played that field knows how tight you gotta sit in that position, and it is just natural that paint accumulates on the side of your bunker. The Daltons where shooting yellow paint and I was shooting blue Inferno - I had put some paint on the side of my cone (from sitting tight & changng hands to shoot) and this had caused some blue paint to rub onto my hopper.

The ref comes over and without looking/investigating and pulls me - when I tell him and show him the blue paint on the cone he just gives me a blank look (revealing what was going through his mind). What does this do - it clears our right hand side and lets the Daltons push that way, thereby altering the game.

Now I can't say that we would have for 100% won the game, but they then would not have been able to shoot rom that side as easily.

Was he a little over-eager? Maybe. Did he screw-up? definately. Did he do anything to fix it? NO.

The rules are rules, but there is a little room for common sense allowed.

I do understand what you mean, but rules should be strictly held in this kind of situations because there will be alot of discussions going on on the field.

The game play should be fast and it should be recognised that marshalls can make wrong calls in the field(e.g. taking you out when your not hit) but after a player is called out on the field and has left the playing field, he should not be allowed to go in discussion with the marshalls. If he wants to complain let him send his team captain to the marshall after the game is finished and handle it in a professional manner.

Agreed - partially...

seeing that I have never of a game being replayed do to a blatantly bad/wrong call by a ref, waiting for the end of the game accomplishes nothing.

If the refs do not do their jobs properly then they should be ready for all and any criticism that comes their way. Small things are unavoidable - missing a paintcheck (before a player wipes), not seeing who shot who first in a mugging situation and things like that. However something along the lines of a paint smear on a marker/loader/shoulder etc. should be checked before calling a player out - especially if the ref didn't see it break.

If a ref can see that he made a mistake he SHOULD correct it, you are right that there should not be a minute discussion during the game, but sometimes it takes that for a ref to realize he screwed up.

P.S. John [SAD] - huh??

Goose I think all of these are great points which further shows the need for good, professional, fairly paid Refs who are trained and accountable for how well they perform. Not just players from teams or the local site... Not all players make good refs. And some who think they are good at playing/reffing are quite honestly a joke :)

That Avalanche game was just a joke, I don't know why they do it as by the crowds reaction (and mine!) they are rapidly losing face - did you hear the shouts when 'lanche player got shot against Dynasty !!! They have some of the best talent in the game but Lasoya pulls stunts like this !!!

Dynasty were true pro's, they deserved the win.
