Suggested Method for Madrid Problem Resolution

Ok this is what we should do, line up all the five promoters of the Millennium from left to right :-

Steve Baldwin - Laurent - Barry Fuggle - Pedro - Mannfred

With a loudpeaker in one hand, activate the switch and point the said device toward the promoters. Speak slowly and clearly into the mouthpiece and deliver the following message :-

' Attttennnnshunnn !!! - all those promoters who are going to be promoting a Millennium event next year, please take one step forward.........ahem, where you going Pedro' ?

Way, way back when I played (cast your minds back) the worst event of the year was a traditional jaunt to Portugal organised by The Pedro

Glad to see nothing has changed

We don't play NEAR the stadiums, we play IN the stadiums.

There is only one conceivable reason why these tournaments get played in Madrid, and it's the expected return of a bigger (don't know if more mature) market. Period.

Isnt that true ?

Portugal has more than enough conditions to host such an event, it has all the proper motivation, skills and experience to host world-class events here. This has been proven time and time again.

This is very much true.
Any LPP (Portuguese Paintball League series) shows more conditions then Madrid.

It just pure fallacy that what happened in Madrid was other than pure disrespect for the paying crowd (in this case it's just the players, 'cause there is no other "crowd"). Establish a miminum, and THEN surprise the players with more than they expected. This is not a Madrid vs. Somewhere else issue. This was the promoters fault. For the simple reason it was his responsability.

This is THE POINT.... There is no ESPN here, there is no crowd, there are no spectactors unless they are playing 2 :)

To balance things out though, I would have to agree that maybe, as a community, we are living above our capacity to pay. In other sports, that have venues with the magnitude that we've come to expect (but not come to see apparently), the paying crowd, the "Johns" and "Janes" that don't play but come to see the sport anyway, make up a lot of the money that the promoters get. And with regular paying crowd, comes advertising and all those nice things.

Yes. A player needs to pay 300 Euros (including trips, paint, and accomodation, but not meals) to play in Madrid, driving from Portugal.

We are putting our little shows, for "we the people" that are playing. Period.

Maybe we are trying to get too much, much too early. The sport has literally exploded in the past years, but maybe (just maybe) we are getting ahead of ourselves here.

Hey, Pete, is has a point here. Care to comment?

Right now, It's time to realise that this thing just went pear-shaped, and now heads have to roll.

Sad but true...
My 2 cents

PS- Millennium 2007 in Portugal (drop the Spanish act)

PEDRO IS THE PROBLEM!! Not the country

Let him organise an event at the Millennium Stadium with free entry, paint, food, beer, hotels and it would still go down like a lead balloon.

I think you see things VERY close to how I see things. I believe we (paintball) in general expect too much out of what we actually are.

I don't say that we stop pushing for more, but we have to accept we are pushing for more than we should expect.

My next post put this a different way.

I don't think we are getting ahead of ourselves when all we expect is value for money, if that's getting ahead of ourselves then we really are in a lot of trouble.
Nah, other promoters such as Laurent, Manfred and Baldrick have all proved it can be done, maybe not as consistently as we would like but it is achievable with the right planning and management.
None of it is rocket science, all of it achievable within working budgets, it just comes down to the integrity, work ethic and attitude of each promoter.

I have for a long time advocated that Laurent take over the running of all events in the Millennium to make sure this sort of thing never happens.
If Laurent cannot commit to this then I think the Millennium have to do what needs to be done and then get on with promoting events that have the customer first and foremost at the forefront of their mind.

I am 100% sure this will be done and so we can maybes look back on Madrid as a defining moment in the evolution of the Millennium in that it finally focused the Board's attention on its true assets and its needed direction.

For the record, I am insulted that anyone would think I could agree with Chicago on this one. I plan to sulk for a little while, then fire some jabs off later when people don't expect it....

and Loco - your alleged quotes weren't outrageous enough, and weren't 'fake attributed' to anyone. Better luck next time, or as P8ntballer says;

"we don't care what you plebs think anyway so long as you pay the platinum membership and we can ban you at whim, with no good reason, so long as we had your $30 already"

See what I mean? Different class of 'making stuff up' altogether.
