Planet Piper away from you freaks!
Time limits...... Sparklie as a point I hope you take this on board. I have spoken to a few tams that played both events and as I played the first one. I feel you need to sort the schedule out. As in there is noway teamsshould be playing til early evening.

As I said to you if you want it done right just contact Beard. He will do the draw (I am sure if you ask nicely) and tell you the best amount of teams for fields. Now don't jump on me I am only pointing something out.

i have quite a few suggestions that could help with this league, but will wait until the issues that we have are sorted before i give them, i do not wish to look like i am personally attacking, i just want the event to be fair for everyone.

M25

I have just found out that we team Impact have been put into div 1 just because liz thinks we are good enough! sparklie i suggest you look at the facts in stead of hearsay, yes we did have a very good year last year but so far we have been somewhat off the boil just check the millenium scores so far. Needless to say we are a bit unhappy with this desision,

We tried adding in just 3 extra teams last time - remember what happened to the schedule?!
Sparklie could have increased the number of fields and therefore taken more teams but ONLY IF she'd got enough deposits in on time. Otherwise you're asking her to make a commitment running into 4 figures financially on the off chance that sufficient extra teams will get around to entering. [OLD FOGEY MODE] When I wuz young - my old team used to be able to get it together well enough to get our deposits in on time more than 2 weeks before an event. [/OLD FOGEY MODE]. Nowadays teams expect to be able to enter at the last minute - that might work out with a dedicated paintball site but the infrastructure of an arena site takes time to organise and/or change.
Another big problem in increasing the number of fields/teams is marshals - anyone know any nice experienced refs available?!? Sparklie's having enough problems getting hold of them for 3 fields let alone 4.
[BOLD]I.e. tell the team that you don’t have a place for them as they are novice and maybe next time round there may be a novice division for them to play in.
[/BOLD]
Just about all of the lower ranked teams got themselves sorted out and paid their deposits early, many of them a rolling deposit for the whole series. Very few people would agree that we should then tell them "A bunch of Pros who couldn't be bothered to book in time have decided thay feel like a game, so %$^* off and let them play instead".

As Sparklie said, the divisions were never named Pro, Am etc but 1,2,3 etc. This was because (like Series 2k and the MM) the idea was to put the best 8 teams entered in each event in Div 1, the next best in Div 2 and so on. If there were no Pro or Am A (by Millennium standards) teams entered, would you want us to call the divisions 3,4,5 and 6 and not have 1 and 2?

cgrieves - good point, I wish more teams would tell us what they think their standard is when they put their deposits in, would make our lives much easier. Only 2 problems. One would be that we would have 4 teams asking to be in Div 1, 18 (of varying ability) asking for Div 3 and 10 (also of varying ability) asking for Div 4. So as the first 18 to enter have all asked for Div 3, without knowing what other teams are entered, we only accept 8 of them under this system and end up 10 teams short of the event total. Secondly, would you like to define the standard of each division? It can be quite easy to justify telling Tigers or Shockwave Pro teams that they can't play Div 3 (they would be the LAST to ask, which is why I used them in this example) but what about teams playing Am B at Millennium level? What division would you put them in?

Piper - In theory the schedule should have worked (you're welcome to a look at it if you want). I am lucky enough not to have to try to create it myself (and would have refused if asked, WAY too hard for me to work out), but it did look OK for timings. For some reasons, though there was plenty of time including a couple of extra minutes for turn arounds between games, it just didn't happen according to the printed schedule. Not having a go, you know me well enough to realise I will always listen to constructive suggestions.

Rob - more a case of not many choices of who could go there once the obvious Div 1 teams had been placed. If we had the same line-up as last time then no way would I have put you up there.

In this instance the m25 has not attracted enough pro teams to have a proper pro-division. What should we do in this instance?. Maximum respect to the teams who want to play who are better ability sides such as Kelly's, Shockwave, Campaign Red etc, but if they were not on time with their deposits, you can't expect the other 32 teams who were on time to suffer. Plus the organisers had to organise the shiznit. I totally agree with your point about quality sides need to play quality sides (or like ability), but until the M25 can attract a consistent number of pro, am and novice teams in like numbers (it seems a bit stacked towards nov's at the mo) you will allways be faced with this problem. As yet the M25 dosen't attract the same amount of teams as the MM, so this problem may continue for sometime, perhaps a compromise solution needs to be found. Of course the pro's are going to spank the nov's 90% of the time but 1. All teams have to got to start somewhere and 2. What about the other 10% of the time? Without major sponsership the teams that want to play are bankrolling this series and if their willing to pay for it, you can't say "sorry two pro teams have turned up at the last minute you can't play this time". You just upset your grass roots support.
Until a consistent amount of teams for each div can be found of each ability the series has to look for other solutions, which may include changing the scheduling / amount of fields turnaround times whatever. If the overall consensus is that the players are causing the delays penalise teams who are late to the staging area, you can guarantee they'd show up on time then(if a field is running slow, perhaps teams should be clocked off a field, so that valid exceptions can be raised to unfair penalities or short turnarounds). Of course a field slow running has a knock on, but if you decide to set up a field with big back bunkers and f/a in the middle or huge gaps to the 40, 50 it's goona play slow, factor it in. Before setup try and work with people experienced in field set-up and decide whether a set field should play fast or slow. Perhaps the organisers should approach wildcards from outside the area about playing (offer free entry etc) to bolster the number of pro's up. This may work towards solving some of the problems. It maybe that other areas such as chrono'ing etc need to be sorted out. These are just suggestions (some in place some which maynot even be possible), but it's better than an all out bitch.

How about a series points graded system just like the MM? This seems to work VERY well, with all teams turning up and working their way up through the Divisions depending on how well they do. Everyone has a good days 'ball, and generally play a lot of cracking, close games, which in turn provides ample oppurtunity to develop individual and team ability, rather than getting spanked all day long.

This way, teams like Storm AM (to pick a totally random name from the air), who didn't do too well last time, will automatically drop a Div in the next event, whilst a team who performed better in the second division get's moved up.

All's fair, and everyone is happy (mostly), and it would certainly help to generate consistency across the different series'.

Although, I wouldn't have a clue how you seed the first round of this system. Ask Blakey/Phil, etc....

That's it for now...

Ermm, I've just read all the comments and I'm shocked that so many people have bitched about being in the wrong division! When we decided that we were going to play this (don't think we got in - late deposit - oops), I wanted to play 'cos ..... I like playing. :D Any excuse to fire my cocker and I'm there!

If we had ended up in a hard division, well, that's just tough isn't it? I'd rather get spanked by teams better than me and have a look at where I went wrong, than win every game in a division lower than me and not learn anything. You don't gain any respect from other teams for doing that.

Hopefully it would bring our game up for the Millenium tournaments where you don't have any say in the teams you are playing!

And I'm spent. ;)

I THINK WE SHOULD ALL STOP BITCHING

I SPEAK FOR MY SELF AND NOT EVERY ONE(IM SURE)
I WAS AT THE FIRST M25 LEAGUE AND IT DID NEED A LOT TO BE DESIRED (AS IN TIME MANAGEMENT OF THE FIELDS)
BUT IT WAS A KICK ARSE TOURNY .
AS FOR DEPOSITS WELL IT'S ALWAYS BEEN THE SAME, GET IN OR YOU DON'T , SIMPLE REALLY.
I THINK SPARKILE NEEDS A BIT OF RESPECT FOR THE HARD WORK SHE HAS PUT IN TO THIS LEAGUE AS WELL AS THE REST OF THE GUYS AND GALS WHO HELP HER(SORRY I DON'T KNOW WHO U R)
THE PROBLEM IS THIS SERIES IS LOOKING LIKE IT IS LOSING ITS INTEGRITY, AND THIS IS NOT GOOD , I DON'T HAVE THE ANSWER BUT I KNOW FOR SURE WHEN WE START HAVING A GO ABOUT CRAP LIKE DIVISIONS AND THINGS, THIS IS THE ROAD TO NO WHERE AND WE WILL ALL HAVE TO GO BACK TO TEMPLE IF WE ARE NOT CAREFULL.
COME ON FOLKS LETS SUPPORT THE M25 AND GIVE IT
POSITIVE FEEDBACK .
IM SURE I WILL UPSET SOME ONE WITH THIS I ALWAYS DO BUT ITS NOT MEANT .
