We tried adding in just 3 extra teams last time - remember what happened to the schedule?!
Sparklie could have increased the number of fields and therefore taken more teams but ONLY IF she'd got enough deposits in on time. Otherwise you're asking her to make a commitment running into 4 figures financially on the off chance that sufficient extra teams will get around to entering. [OLD FOGEY MODE] When I wuz young - my old team used to be able to get it together well enough to get our deposits in on time more than 2 weeks before an event. [/OLD FOGEY MODE]. Nowadays teams expect to be able to enter at the last minute - that might work out with a dedicated paintball site but the infrastructure of an arena site takes time to organise and/or change.
Another big problem in increasing the number of fields/teams is marshals - anyone know any nice experienced refs available?!? Sparklie's having enough problems getting hold of them for 3 fields let alone 4.
[BOLD]I.e. tell the team that you don’t have a place for them as they are novice and maybe next time round there may be a novice division for them to play in.

Just about all of the lower ranked teams got themselves sorted out and paid their deposits early, many of them a rolling deposit for the whole series. Very few people would agree that we should then tell them "A bunch of Pros who couldn't be bothered to book in time have decided thay feel like a game, so %$^* off and let them play instead".
As Sparklie said, the divisions were never named Pro, Am etc but 1,2,3 etc. This was because (like Series 2k and the MM) the idea was to put the best 8 teams entered in each event in Div 1, the next best in Div 2 and so on. If there were no Pro or Am A (by Millennium standards) teams entered, would you want us to call the divisions 3,4,5 and 6 and not have 1 and 2?
cgrieves - good point, I wish more teams would tell us what they think their standard is when they put their deposits in, would make our lives much easier. Only 2 problems. One would be that we would have 4 teams asking to be in Div 1, 18 (of varying ability) asking for Div 3 and 10 (also of varying ability) asking for Div 4. So as the first 18 to enter have all asked for Div 3, without knowing what other teams are entered, we only accept 8 of them under this system and end up 10 teams short of the event total. Secondly, would you like to define the standard of each division? It can be quite easy to justify telling Tigers or Shockwave Pro teams that they can't play Div 3 (they would be the LAST to ask, which is why I used them in this example) but what about teams playing Am B at Millennium level? What division would you put them in?
Piper - In theory the schedule should have worked (you're welcome to a look at it if you want). I am lucky enough not to have to try to create it myself (and would have refused if asked, WAY too hard for me to work out), but it did look OK for timings. For some reasons, though there was plenty of time including a couple of extra minutes for turn arounds between games, it just didn't happen according to the printed schedule. Not having a go, you know me well enough to realise I will always listen to constructive suggestions.
Rob - more a case of not many choices of who could go there once the obvious Div 1 teams had been placed. If we had the same line-up as last time then no way would I have put you up there.
