Back to normal (non-rant) service from me.......

Like Manike, I prefer complex fields with loads of bunkers. I'm old, overweight & with a seriously dodgy leg which are the main reasons I play back. I also tend to have a good awareness of the game & can keep touch with everything that's going on which is another good reason I've always played there even when younger & fitter.
With lots of barricades on the fields you WILL see me move up when the time is right; I've been known to mug the opposition's back players to finish a game off with my own forward/mid players still in :D I also find that with a packed field I can't get the angles I want on the opposition so I automatically move to progress the game, which surely is more interesting than watching me leave the field after 10 seconds having failed to make my primary.
Manike said "Surely it would be more entertainment to watch 'lard ass' wobble up the field via a few bunkers before getting mugged out or even watch lard ass wobble all the way down field to mug someone...". Well my favorite bit of the Campaign Cup DVD is the featured game where one, yes ONE architypal back player (slow, overweight) took out 5 of the opposition & won the game. Many of my non-paintball friends who I've forced to sit through the DVD say they found that bit the most fun to watch...........

Not quite. Nike DOES want Lardboy/girl wearing a Nike shirt & trainers, 'cause Nike can make megabucks selling them to Lardboy/girl. The extra cost of buying large sizes is vastly more than the difference in manufacturing cost. They can sell as many or more replica jerseys to "weekend ballers" as they can to people who just spectate, as they do now to Sunday football players.

On a completely different tack...

Liz, I mean no offence, but why does that part of the DVD appeal so much to you?

Is it maybe because you can relate to it?

It's the same reason I love watching the Ugly Ducklings play, because they are tall guys who can still get up front and play good paintball.

Don't we all want to relate to and be part of what we see on the screen?

TJ, what percentage of your country are currently 'lard asses' ? :D

Do you think they might prefer to watch a game where they can relate to the players at the top levels and dream of doing the same?

Maybe we should be making this game so that the 'lard asses' can get down field and 'bust out some funky moves on your azz' :D (see I can be TJ ;) )

Playing Devil's advocate... or am I? :)

Actually, Nike does sponsor the lardasses of this world. Anybody ever heard of Nate Newton? :D
Oh, and Manike, it's not that the Ducklings are so tall, it's just that the rest of the world on avarage is so short compared to the Northern Europeans (Dutch included, who are, on avarage the tallest country in the world). Obviously, that does not include, on your own you are probably responsible for raising the avarage height of the British by a good 6 inches. :p

Seriously though, I welcome any change that promotes aggressive play. Even if it means that the only the top atheletes will get to play at the top levels (I guess that's why they are called top athletes). Although I do get a feeling that if one had to truly be in top physical shape to be able to to perform at pro level, a lot of the current pros would tumble from their pedestals.

Good point...

I think Bob Long is a great paintball player for his tactics and control. But I've also seen him run to the centre back barricade on the break and the one occasion he ran to a corner bunker he only just made it :)

Does that mean that he shouldn't end up playing top pro level in the future of the sport?

I think his other skills mean he should be there. Should we be stopping others like Bob Long from playing top level in the future (Note I said 'like Bob' not just 'Bob' ;) )

On the Diablo field at Toulouse where the big bunkers allowed you to move up and gave cover for moves, I saw him up in the middle of the field in front of a lot of his own players...

First off - Nike doesn't want Mr. & Missus lardass PROMOTING their shoes in a nationwide ad campaign - but they sure as hell want them wearing them.

Second - I don't think Bob would have a hard time finding a bunker to play at Joy. Even - what used to be - the the mid back beer cans where reachable at a walk/jog (if done properly). Also I think that if Bob where able to see that he couldn't compete due to age/lack of athletisism he would gladly (okay maybe not gladly) step-aside.

Third - Nate Newton may be a lardass but at his sport/position it works for him. He is also a quick mo'fo. Just because someone is large doesn't mean they ain't quick - just takes some training.

Fourth - Our 3 big guys missed Joy - maybe it was a good thing - maybe not - but I know for a fact that we would have found a place to stick them - it may have been at the 50's, but if you don't adapt you die.

So from the first quote am I to take it that this 'lard ass' Nate Newton (never heard of him) who is good at what he does is not used by any Sports companies to promote their gear?

Mr. Newton is an All-Pro offensive lineman for the Dallas Cowboys of the NFL and as such pretty much exemplifies the pinnacle of his position but offensive lineman don't have sufficient "glamor" to be of much appeal for marketing purposes. Tho some of them have done ads for things like Big & Tall Men's shops. :)

Manike...

sorry - my bad didn't mean to mislead you - and yes I get what you mean.

Nate Newton is a american football player - who is in fact sponsored by Nike (I think). Yes he is lardass - but like I stated, he has game - and he is a famous lardass. If he didn't he wouldn't be looked at by sponsors now would he.

If a lardass can play at the top level of a sport - due to hard work and dedication - then he is more than welcome. I also think that with his speed he would be able to make the barricades at Joy that he could fit into.

I think people are under the misconception that all the the bunkers where within 10 meters of the 50 and where all itsy-bitsy-teenie-weenie barricades. There where plenty of beercans and larger obsatcles to be found - just further up field than usual. As I said, I have seen many "metabolically challenged people" (lardasses) who are plenty quick - it just takes practice - ad if you want to play at the top level you have to work at it.

P.S. What just irks me a little is people wanting the sport to stay the same way it has always been just so THEY can continue playing in the Millennium. An understandable feeling, but not really one that helps the sport evolve, now is it?
