Can't believe some people need clarification on this - I have participated in a few sports/hobbies, and this is the only one so far which doesn't have:
A) A governing body which sets the rules for ALL UK events
B) A voted in governing body with members representing each section - voted by the people who take part.
C) A Mandatory (Look the word up guys) requirement for "Personal cover"
I personally think that as the sport has grown the UKPSF should become
the governing body, who all can turn to, agree all tournament rules, regulations, fund raising, equipment etc should go through them. Each tourney should have its "section" (eg 5 man, 7man, X-Ball) who have a voted committee and AGMs - Rules are written, amended, improved yearly, fund raising etc and it also shows the authorities that there is strict controls etc etc.
If you follow the RC world (
BRCA)that is a fantastic template to follow - very very successful and very organised. They have a £14 per year membership, all clubs must be affiliated to run events which then gives you guidelines of what to and what not to do (I could set up a tournament tomorrow in my field tomorrow with NO guidance etc - how bizarre is that!)
Each membership gives you cover for accidents to yourself and others (mate of mine got hit on the ankle by a 1/8th IC circuit car whilst marshalling - He was off for 3 weeks and was paid during that time)
Anyway - I'll stop moaning on - people will go on and have a pop at me probably but this is a must for Paintball, for it's future and progression into a recognised sport in the UK, especially as we are heading quickly into the "where there's blame, there's a claim!" society.
And for those who say it should be your choice to be insured, remember the insurance isn't just for you, it's also for the guy you bonus balled in the rib cage/ in his ear/ back of the head, and fancies suing you.....!
