Yes there is a point in the sence that if you/your equipment manages to injure maim someone if/when they sue you you wont have to pay them out of your own money...

Ask the qusetion of a tournie organiser - Why are you not on the list? Then tell them to call me and I will explain what they have to do to get on the list - it is not difficult

Do you know if your event organiser has civil liabilty insurance cover - ASK them?

Can't believe some people need clarification on this - I have participated in a few sports/hobbies, and this is the only one so far which doesn't have:

A) A governing body which sets the rules for ALL UK events
B) A voted in governing body with members representing each section - voted by the people who take part.
C) A Mandatory (Look the word up guys) requirement for "Personal cover"

I personally think that as the sport has grown the UKPSF should become the governing body, who all can turn to, agree all tournament rules, regulations, fund raising, equipment etc should go through them. Each tourney should have its "section" (eg 5 man, 7man, X-Ball) who have a voted committee and AGMs - Rules are written, amended, improved yearly, fund raising etc and it also shows the authorities that there is strict controls etc etc.

If you follow the RC world (BRCA)that is a fantastic template to follow - very very successful and very organised. They have a £14 per year membership, all clubs must be affiliated to run events which then gives you guidelines of what to and what not to do (I could set up a tournament tomorrow in my field tomorrow with NO guidance etc - how bizarre is that!)

Each membership gives you cover for accidents to yourself and others (mate of mine got hit on the ankle by a 1/8th IC circuit car whilst marshalling - He was off for 3 weeks and was paid during that time)

Anyway - I'll stop moaning on - people will go on and have a pop at me probably but this is a must for Paintball, for it's future and progression into a recognised sport in the UK, especially as we are heading quickly into the "where there's blame, there's a claim!" society.

And for those who say it should be your choice to be insured, remember the insurance isn't just for you, it's also for the guy you bonus balled in the rib cage/ in his ear/ back of the head, and fancies suing you.....!

thanks for letting us know the insurer and and the broker....

if you ask slade perkins for a 'key facts' document this should give the details of what cover is actually provided.. they should be able to email a copy or have a link on their site

point to note anybody who holds household insurance and their family members are generally covered for 'personal liability cover' if they injury someone and are found to be negligent in our out side of the home...

The premium £12 is cheap compared with other insurances but that is why the question of what is covered is important :)

thanks for the people who cleared up the bits i needed. As with anything, all i asked was for the key information.

oh and P.S. Russell.
I never said i wouldn't be buying it, i think it's a good idea. i just found it reasonable to ask questions before parting with money for something like this. :)

ok so what about the issue of spectators at events ? have seen people not there to ball and get a head shot from balls coming over low netting. and as we have had one so far this year how does this effect that ?

If I think rightly, the Site organisers insurance must cover for injuries to spectators, however, i also think that by rights, spectators should see some signage explaining the dangers etc etc

I might be wrong...?

This insurance would not effect that, it is the organisers responsibility to ensure adequate safety precautions are in place and any failure of those would be claimed against their own policy.
That is why players should not be embarrassed to ask Organisers to see their copy.
It is not a legal requirement to hold such a policy but only a dam fool would risk not having one.

Just one more thing I wanted to know when we go down play touni's like the masters. Don't we all sign disclaimers so if anything happens to us we can't do anything about it.

Thanks

Seb
