If you host a party in your house, and somebody does something that offends you at the party, you have every right to ask for an apology, send someone to the door, or whatever. It's your party. Same goes here really. PGI magazine hosts this party, and as such it's representatives deserve at least some respect.
I get your point, and yeah thats the way it is.
I guess i am just a little too much pro freedom of speech.
Lets just hope things keep cool

Sorry to be late joining the party but I've been busy at World Cup :D :D :D.

One of the worst things to do with anyone who is strong minded and opinionated is change their words (in a post) or take them out of context in a discussion. It drives me through the wall and is exactly what happened to get me banned from here (one of the times anyway;) ) It's very easy to immediately get someone to put their heckles up then and that means we read anything else with a different slant on the way we interpret the words, humour is lost, and everything becomes a personal insult if it could possibly be read that way.

With that said, the most annoying thing Pete ever did to me was edit my posts to say something else, BUT in this context if he's changing something because it was an attack on him in someones signature then I fully believe in his right to do that.

He is afterall an admin, and on any other web page I view (or moderate) that kind of thing isn't accepted and usually results in a ban.

As for the posts, under heavy debate it's very tough to see humour and sarcasm. The adrenalin comes up and every post is a quick think and fight to hit back. It is like boxing with attack and rebuttal. I've had that problem with many people, including Pete. It's very easy to see personal digs and attacks. Sometimes they aren't meant, but all to often even though you may have an excuse for them and pretend 'that wasn't what I meant' it definitely was.

Nick, your posts read to be full of elbows and if you know how Pete get's in such debates it's hard to believe they were accidental and not meant to cut. I suggest even though we are all very strong minded and opinionated (one reason I like to discuss things here) that we also consider how we do it.

I always felt when someone resorts to insults that things can get nasty and messy quick (Pete when everyone cares so much about what they think on this sport it would stop some of the messy debates if you held back just a little on the insults ;) )

As for who had ideas first? It is very possible that when people think about something so much that they can have similar ideas completely independently. That doesn't mean it's wrong or someone else is copying. I often come out with a new idea and am making a prototype of something just to see that someone has already done it. That happens.

Nick I happen to know that your ball and lighting idea was the subject of a patent discussion for paintball back before 2000 (not by me). If you think you did something first it's up to you to prove you did. That's the way of the world and it's why priority dates and notorised documents are so important... ask WDP about that one! ;) :D

One other point, and it's something I've only really started appreciating recently, but the more you come into the public eye the more people try and aim at you just for kicks. There are people that go out of their way to make attacks and digs, sometimes subtly and sometimes not. That builds rapidly and it's tough to deal with. In Pete's position it must be extremely tough and although he does blow up occasionally I think anyone in his position would find it hard not to. I've found it tough lately and I don't take anywhere near the flack he does.

Let's try to be passionate but play nice. :) Pete, maybe try not to insult people quite so easily/quickly.

I suppose it's a good thing that I'm still a bit of nobody then, eh?

Pity I didn't get to meet you at World Cup, Simon, but those are the breaks, eh? What little time I spent in the National tent I spent with Mr. Bollenbach as he made fun of Daryl Stetser...you people really should let Bourgalt out more.

So now that's it's all said and done, what does everyone think? My opinions, if anyone cares to read them are posted on my site.

Geez, Dale, Simon is pretty hard to miss--head in the clouds and all. (You may take that figuratively or literally:) )

I will pick a bone wid yer boy, Bryan G, regarding ESPN's filming--or lack thereof. All year long, heck, both years, the NXL owners have buried their league away and insisted, among other things, it wasn't a part of the PSP proceedings. Ask Lane and he will tell you the same--the NXL is present but no part of his concern when PSP is running an event.
And make no mistake, the ESPN dealio was always all about the NXL title and nothing else so Bryan's criticism of lack of event coverage was unwarranted as it was never part of the equation.
As to the 30 cameras business I know that was bandied about the websites and whatnot but can't recall if it was part of any official NXL PR release--even though there've only been what, three altogether? I do know there were handhelds working the pit areas during the matches as well as the cameras set-up on field and one of the helicopters overhead had a camera in it as well.
From the leagues, the teams, the players, the fans and Paintball's standpoint the only unfortunate aspect of any of ESPN's involvement was the fact they weren't on hand to capture more of the NXL early round action.
Regardless, fans of the Xball format or not, everyone should watch the shows and make some noize. It's good for paintball generally and everyone who plays competitively, same as FSN coverage of the NPPL and PB2X's Spike TV show. When Paintball wins, we all win.

Was that when we talking about ugly people and people with Pony tails being girls?

Were you there with a lady? In which case I was there too in the truck, but maybe not talking so much.

Bergy was back holding the fort.
