Whoops, how could i forget Teeside? Sorry guys. So that should have read 9 active, recognised paintball clubs that i'm in touch with.

However the most recent addition, Kent, brings the total into double figures with 10 recognised clubs. The club was started at freshers by Matt, a former member surrey uni paintball soc. Sadly surrey is temporarily (I hope) inactive at the moment.

as an idea ( don't want to step on feet here)

5-7 man ( not too fussed 5 may be easier)

if top gun can hire kit would it be possible to include in entry price? ie £35 per player kit included if need be ( if not still £35)

sell paint at £40 per box ( this is upto you guys), its still cheaper than rec-ball

limited paint. cheap,

only one experienced player per team on the field.( been playing tourney more than 1 year) ( can have more experienced players to set up and help but only one on the field)

semi only,

if you can give a def date, I'll see about getting teesside to come up and set up,

Jose, reckon camping could be done on the field, I want the flashing ice cubes and optics bar when its hits -6 degrees celcius again :p

I'll put this to the uni's as well when i speak to them. All this would be much easier if they were all on this forum. :p

no fair way to gauge who's got experience and who hasn't. Better to limit kit than player experience.
Otherwise all it takes is for one Uni to be dishonest about who they have playing for them and it's all meaningless.

awwww, but i wanna use my spangly gat!! oh well its only a shocker, so similar to an ion, but i mite have a nice nexus ego by then... and that wud be a shame:(

fair point tho, and just because they've been playin a while doesnt mean they're any good, take me for example:D i've been playin for 2 years!

the format sounds good, tho i think probs teams of 5 are better...it allows teams with less people to manage, and those with more can rotate, or even enter two teams poss... plus it'll save on paint...

To be honest i'm not in favour of limiting the players to the inexperienced only. Firstly, because as Ian (AKA Jose) says its not always easily enforceable, and secondly because it kind of defeats the point of having an competition. You can play, but not if your good. Now, i know that experienced doesn't always = good, but that would be the aim of the limitation.

However it would be nice to set up the event such that the more experienced teams don't overly dominate. Equipment limitations, could be one approach. However one of the attractions to paintball is the shiney equipment, and as we trying to give the uni's an oportunity to attract people into tourney it would be a shame to lose this. Also, people who play already might sulk #cough#keith#cough# ;) if they can't play with their shiney toys.

My suggestion would be to make it a limited paint event. Firstly this will reduce the cost, always a bonus for students, and also will mean that the firepower advantage of the own gunners will be reduced, due to the limited period they can sustain the higher rates of fire for. Also, with the lack of suppressive fire, it will mean that inexperienced players won't spend the whole of the game pinned behind a bunker, and might actually get to play some ball.

I'm sorry if this sounds a bit patronising, that's not the intention, i'm just trying to think how we can make this accessable to completely new players, as an enjoyable introduction to the sport.

:( i dont really mind not usin my gat, tho it is nice and shiny:p

limited paint works well, i dont have the money to go shootin off cases of paint just for fun, and if we're usin rented ions there isnt a significant disadvantage to people usin their own guns...

if we want shiny gats to encourage people to take up tourney ball, then those with guns could still bring them to show them to new players, if they dont mind luggin it half way across england to do so... i agree, the shiny gear (and lube) is part of the attraction to the game, and its a bit more interestin than the usual tippmans you would normally use at sites.

I agree that limited paint is the way to go. That way you can budget paint for the day depending on the number of games scheduled. Students who don't play much aren't keen on the idea that paint cost for the day is variable, especially when they get there and find out how easy they get through it. Keeps the current players happy by allowing them to use their bling equipment too....very important :D

Say 10 games at 200 rounds per person, per game = a box each for the day, max. Or you can do it team using team paint whereby if it's a 5 man team, say 1500 rounds per team allowed onto the field per game divided as they wish. That way a couple of trigger happy people can take the odd extra pod on field.

Just thoughts....

I'm loving the idea of cash prizes though! If only we had that last year...still haven't got the jerseys from the Just Paintball 'vouchers' we got.

Have you not sent off for them yet or have they just not arrived? Let me know if the later.

RE prize money. It would be nice, but it has to come from somewhere i.e. the entrance fees. Despite the fact that Birmingham would probabley be one of the teams in the running, I still think it would be better to have cheaper a entrance fee to attract more teams.

I know that prize money will attract teams to the event, but the teams that are likely to be in with a shot of winning (and thus for who it should be an intentive) are probabley going to come along anyway for the sake of playing.

yeah i'd prefer a cheaper entrance in place of a prize at the end of it, partly because judgin by warwick's result last time we have no chance:p and because (for now at least) the tourneys more about having fun, and introducing people to tourney ball...and tho a nice price fund for the winners looks nice, teams who arent expectin to do well may be put off by the high entrance fee... while as steve sed, the "better" teams in with a chance of winning will come whatever the entrance fee is...

if this becomes a regular event, or even BUSA recognised, then we could look at having a prize, but for now i think it wud scare the "newer" players away, having to fork out a load of money, with next to no hope of winnin it back.
