Is that a 6th form college (FE), or a part of a uni (HE) like the oxbridge colleges?

>>Google>> Um, both appartently.

Reason i asked is because we were discussing inter-uni paintball, and i was wondering whether warwick college (moreton morrell) came into that category. As its a HE institution (by the sounds of their website) then i guess they would as they are eligable to be members of BUSA, British University Sports Association:
BUSA constitution CON 3. MEMBERSHIP
CON 3.1. Membership of BUSA is:
CON 3.1.1 Open to any UK institution of higher education on application and the payment of the relevant fee.
CON 3.1.2 Decided by simple majority of the general Council, acting on the recommendation of the Executive Board.
CON 3.1.3 Subject to suspension or withdrawal by a qualified majority of general Council, acting on the recommendation of the Executive Board with appeal to the trustees.
CON 3.2 UK Institutions of Higher Education are those:
CON 3.2.1 Having, by their Charters and Statutes or Acts of Parliament or other instruments of Government, University status, including the constituent schools, colleges and institutes of the University of London.
CON 3.2.2 Institutions not having University Status, which are, under sections 44 and 72 of the Further and Higher Education Act (1992) or subsequent legislation, eligible to receive funding from the Higher Education Funding Councils or DENI.
CON 3.3 Membership of the Association shall entitle full participation of the Members and of their bona fide students in the services and governance of BUSA in line with the Regulations.
So, do you think you would be able to get a team together?

Inter-Uni Events?

Hey guys,
I run the Paintball Society at Aberdeen Uni, and am curious to know if any other Unis are represented on here....
I'm aware of a good number of successful English Unis, but not so many Scottish ones.. This may be due to the fact that paintball itself isnt as popular up here, or it could be that its cold. And rains a lot. And we all wear skirts... :):)

So let me know, I'd be keen to arrange some kind of inter-Uni event, and wouldnt even mind travelling down abroad to England... Are there any events setup at all?

Cheers!!!
Mark

Yeah, and if youre interested, our web address is www.abdn.ac.uk/~src350 and you can contact me there too...:)

Hi mate,

Your find a number of universitys on here. Im from Coventry University. There are some from Birmingham, Warwick, Portsmouth, Southampton, Imperial ...(ive forgotten the rest)

If you scroll down there's a big thread called 'Warwick University Team' your find details about any possible upcoming events in there.

Best thing to do is let yourself be known to Steve Hancock on these forums, he is the president of the Birmingham Uni club and i believe he is the captain of there team. In the past he has managed to organise some good events for universities and i think hopefully he is looking to do the same this year.

If you dont manage to get a hold of him i do have his e-mail if needed. Just keep a lookout on these forums :D

If you can get the teams interested we'll set up for you...... Ten teams, £300 a team (7 man), we'll put £1000 back into prizes.
Sup air, perfect flat fields. And all in Durham. (Same location as the original PA cup and storming the castle). We can also sort out kit (Ions to rent etc....). And paint would be BYO or various grades available at heavilly discounted rates for the non-sponsored teams. (Basically a one off Top-Gun sponsorship).

There ya go, you get the bodies together.

:)

We offered the same last year....... nothing happened.

So, lets see what happens this time :)

Email me.
Tournament paintball with a good chance of a cash prize and all for the same as a days rec ball.
Shouldn't be too hard to get ten teams interested should it?

Hey just found this thread... Its cool to see so many Unis into the paintball, and also tourney-paintball scene... Its odd that theyre all English Unis, noone from Scotland ever contacted anyone before?
I run the Aberdeen Society, and our guys an girls are up for either rec or tourny ball. We have a great site affiliated with us, it would be cool to organise something together... Hey, plus you get to claim that youre playing international paintball!!! :):):)

Well...I never heard anything about JoseDominguez's offer before now. But Steve was organising a five man Sup Air tourney to be held at the NPF fields in Bassets Pole near Birimingham around last easter time, but as far as I can tell it fell through due to the date more than anything. Too close to easter, the vacation etc. So not many teams were really up for it, or most teams were split up with peeps heading home for the holiday.

Like Michael said, get in contact with Steve Hancock.

There was talk of something at Edinburgh, but i think it fell through. I've heard from a club in Eire that is in touch with a few more clubs there. They had a hyperball based inter uni last year, and might be up for coming over and making the inter uni a British Isles event.

Got to go now, speak later.

Hi all,

can't talk for long now - uni work.

But:
- Most of questions are answered in the Warwick uni thread in this forum.
- Jose, when i phone round the uni's i'll discuss your offer with them and get back to you. Unless of course one of the other uni's gets the ball rolling first and gives you a bell. Oh and the offer is much appreciated BTW.

Speak later all, Bye. :)

We've made similar offers for the last three years to various Unis etc.....
It always seems to fall through. Usually shortly after November when Fresher enthusiasm dies down. Same thing kept happening when Hatt and Gillie organised stuff. For god's sake there are seven universities/colleges etc... withing a £1.20 bus ride of our main site.
Ten teams..... shouldn't be difficult.
Come on, prove me wrong.

I doubt there's a Uni in England that couldn't drum up seven players, so why does nothing happen?
Every year you get somone like Steve, spends time and effort getting something organised, and every year he ends up swamped by student apathy.
And before anyone argues the point...... think about it. If I was wrong, there'd be regualr tourneys wouldn't there?

So here you go, if all of the Unis in England can get ten teams between them. Our home site is willing to put a major prize on offer..... we'll discuss with the teams how it's split once things are organised, but I'm leaning to the £750 first , £250 second mark. (And bear in mind, that's £1000 worth of prize with only ten teams taking part) Make it worthwhile. Other possibilities are........... same format, but site markers only. Same entry fee, same prize money, but all of the teams with equal kit. In that case, all you need to do is show up.

Other than personaly coming round to each Uni and carrying you out to the bus, I don't see how much easier we can make it.

If it works out, we'll have the groundwork for a regular event.

Oh, and 'it's too close to the holidays' is not a valid excuse for not making something of an event. You're students, it's always nearly the holidays.

:)
