I think we should bear with Dave and the team. Marshalling will always be a problem at this level as players experience exceeds marshalling experience. we need to stop bitching about them on the internet and try to encourage marshalls to marshall regulary to build experience. With the experience the level of marshalling will improve to nearer the level players want it at. This will take TIME there is no magic fix(attempts to force teams into marshalling can cause just as bad marshalling and more biased marshalling as well). lets be happy with what we've got and happy in the knowledge that each round is getting better, facilities are improving and that the quality of play is getting better each round.

these are just my views and not those of my team or sponsors.

dave if you are willing to pay am sure a lot of the p.a. refs may well be willing to come down to ref the next event you should get in touch with hatt's or russell(rulebook)smith

regards
So as paying customers, we're not allowed to make constructive criticism in a public forum?

Why is it that all criticism is taken as negative? The series has recieved loads of praise so far- because it's good. But the idea is to make it better.

Mario's right- ?50 per marshal for a domestic tourney is ample. FFS- if you do it properly, it's pi$$-easy.

And yes, let's have the PA judges down as they're not only the best in the country, but the best in the world too...

Ralph (ultimate Judge) had a good suggestion for luring in Marshalls:
pay them £50 a day, and give them a box of paint too.
That way when the next tourney comes around that player has earned enough to play for nothing.

Personally i don't think £50 is ample, if it was then you'd have enough judges, wouldn't you?

Judging Tournament players is a tough one, it's a long day, you get shot at, shouted at, and hostile treatment from everyone. Most players i've talked to say 'i won't do all that for only £50'.
Actually most players just wouldn't do it, but that's another story...

I'd like to say again, nicely run event, a pleasure to play, we're satisfied customers.

Mario,

Whilst the South does not have the proliferation of tournaments the North has, the D7s attracts very high calibre teams and players (Shock, Tigers, Hybrid, Nexus Eclipse seen these guys at any other domestic events?). This is a great success for D7s and should be emulated by others (perhaps the D7s should be looked upon by the so called “North” with envy?). Even the location couldn’t be easier to find, you could throw a stone and Hit the M25 and the Dartford crossing (thus an additional incentive for teams from farther a field to play maybe).

The tournament organisers have already delivered an event with the “Player” in mind, and thus attract quality teams and will continue to do so. This is the key to a good tournament; other issues are largely peripheral (except safety of course, and this was covered as good as any other UK event). Teams will always go where the opposition is, even if just fro bragging rights.

The Marshals already received my and others thanks and respect for Marshalling the most difficult of events. They will get better over time with experience of dealing with the sort of issues that arise from highly aggressive play.

It’s also nice to see a bit of humility from all those involved. They are willing to listen to the satisfied customers suggestions to make the event even better. It is the only event in the S.E. but at least there is not a like it or lump attitude. No tournament ever runs without issue, and to have Millennium expectations isn’t really fair, but the effort thus far is reaping rewards and will continue to do so.

To sum up, “money talks, bullsh*t runs the marathon”, and this tournament will certainly get my wallet voting (and not least for the lack of B.S. that surrounds it).

I said it before but keep up the good work!

When a marshall tells you a player on the other team is not out because he was shot buy his own team .
Calls a game over without letting the flag runner take the flag back or looks him over for hits "as there are loads of his team left" .
This is beyond bad now we as a team complaind about the marshalls on feild 3 as they were beyond a joke but the ultmate whent on the feild and gave them a few tips and they were a lot better.
As we complaind about the standard of marshelling we think its only right to put our money were our mouth is and do it at the next leg.
IMP if you want to do it with us mate pm me.
As for £50 being enough money i could marshell punnters and get more, we are doing this to show our support and comitment to the d7's and dave

No doubt, the facilities and organization are getting better every month. This month's tourney was hurt by the low number of marshalls and the lack of experience of some of them. Unfortunately, some unscrupulous players sought to take maximium advantage of this. Supersol hit the nail on the head. More marshalls would be good but if we all played by the rules it wouldn't be an issue. From the sidelines I saw way too many people get hit and then when a marshall came to check them they explained it away as spray or paint they leaned against.

I even saw one player having a go with a spectator because the spectator pointed out an obvious hit to the marshall. This guy already had 2 or 3 hits on him and he had the audacity to tell off the spectator for helping the marshall judge a fair game. We all have a competitive streak and maybe I'm being naive but don't we play this game for fun? How many times do players have to see this before even the most honest of us are pushed to consider cheating?

Too bloody right :)

So far the D7's have been great, catering to players needs (mostly;) ) and ignoring the Hype and Bulls*** that often surrounds Domestic Competition. I can only see them going from strength to strength with Dave, Liz and tha Jiggster and am more than happy to sacrifice a day's play (or more) to further the sport.
