If people aren't happy where they are, then they should pull their fingers out and do something about it.

However I'd never advise someone happy with their team to change in order to move up the rankings - the grass definitely isn't always greener.

12 years ago I made the decision to leave a team I enjoyed playing with for a 'better' team, leaving behind a lot of friends. Worst decision I ever made. Sponsorship, freebies and higher profile events were outweighed by the loss of the 'fun' aspect of the game. Spoiled paintball for me and took a long time before I wanted to play again.

As Avery (off of NPS/KEE/Diablo Storm) said to me once

"whats the point in joining Pro and placing 5th - 8th every event. Drop down a Division and be on the podium a few times a year. Hell the sponsors will love it! And you'll feel good too. Awesome, have a noice day, tomayto."

ok its not a word for word quote.

i understand what you are saying twizz, but take a mill div one team for example. a good player on that team who wants to win and be the best player that he can be but the team as a whole is not performing. the next step up for that player would be pretty much a pro team, but its not like you can just go up to a big name team and ask to play for them or try out ect. so the player sticks it out playing in div one because hes not sure how to go about trying to improve more..... if that made any sence at all

Thankfully there are people without such a narrow minded approach to UK paintball or we'd be doomed.
Perhaps take a look at this months PGI and you may realise what Im on about.
Narrow minded or realistic?

Personally I'd prefer to make a stand with my friends as I see paintball as a game. If we work hard (or the gods of balling are looking down on us that day) we win, if we loose we go home and work harder. But at the end of the day without financial backing I cannot afford to make playing my passion, working as hard as some US pros, as much as I would love to its just not realistic. Instead I try mix my professional lifestyle with my hobby by drawing Ballers.

My opinion regarding funding is more of a generalization and just my opinion on what can improve commitment. Take the pro slots in the US for instance. Do you think its realistic for them to travel and work as hard as they do for glory? Unfortunately it isnt.

This is just my POV. I just think you cant live on thin air, people need money. And should a person put as much dedication into playing they need something more than glory in return. I genuinely think the UK scene needs a heavy financial backer in order to help drive the ones who ARE dedicated and WANT to improve to a standard that competes with better teams. With money these guys and gals can afford to dedicate more time and effort into playing and hopefully come out on top.

but its not like you can just go up to a big name team and ask to play for them or try out ect.

Why cant you approach a big name team for a try out? If you believe your good enough then go and ask whats the worst there going to say,NO

I myself approached the shades of grey many years(14) ago and asked for a try out and guess what they said yes and i made the team and have never looked back since and continued to play pro paintball untill the end of last season when the tigers got relegated from the cpl.

I have played for more teams than i care to mention and left many friends behind in the previous team when i left,i made some good and bad decisions when i joined and left teams but that was what i felt was right at the time for me to successful in paintball, and i know i will never look back and think what if i did this or that!!!Also if it does'nt work out go back to your old team and tell them you made a mistake by leaving,i had to do this on several occassions.

If these people that are left behind are your friends they will remain friends, some of my closest friends are ex-team mates
