Ok well on the flip side..... what if playing with your mates is really really good fun? Highs and lows, thick and thin. What if they didnt want to play for a slightly better team to possibly get no results?

Personally our team wants to get so good that we beat the "better" teams (and we frequently do)

Contentment, brotherhood, belonging, trust, family. Something that top end teams often don't have, and maybe this does not appeal to everyone. Look at Dan Maskell, Im pretty sure he wouldnt have stayed with RL as long as he did if he wasnt contractually restricted.

at the end of the day you need to take oppertunities in order to advance your own levels of play etc. You can't stick with mates, if by doing so you restrict your own advancment (sp). Or is it just me who feels this way?
I absolutely agree with this, but once you've been through hell and back with your team mates, there's something exciting about working your way up with the people who've stuck by you through being right at the bottom. Everyone improves, some just faster than others.

PS: Advancement I think :D

Jesus christ guys, sorry and gal.

You make it sound like if you leave all your other mates will hate you forever and fall on the floor and die.

a scenario for you

Your playing for team a, awesome group of lads, mates for a long time really loving it and you want to get better.

Team B comes along which happens to be a much higher profile and one of the top teams comes along and wants you to join them.

Now considering team A are full of your "mates", Do you think your "mates" would hold it against you if you went?

If i had the chance id be gone and i would expect everyone who i play with now to do exactly the same.

I think the answers in this thread truly show who takes balling seriously or not

**before you rip it apart, playing ball for fun is in no way a bad thing, if thats your poison then hell yeah do it, but dont say you take ball seriously if you aint prepared to take chances**

If I thought my team were never going to improve I would leave. But what I mean is I wouldn't leave my team for the sake of being where I wanted to be a few months faster than if I stayed put. I understand why people leave. If a pro team wanted me I'd be gone and I would hope my team would understand. But the way it sounded in the initial thread it sounds like people are thinking of leaving their teams that are already doing pretty well for the sake of winning results quickly instead of advancing as a team. Basically if it's a big jump then thats cool, like if I was stuck playing div.4 or something when I was good enough for pro division (unlikely but you get my point) I'd leave for the first team that asked. But teams that are getting through to the sunday on millenium series probably need a bit more improvement and then they will play the sunday afternoon next time. Leaving teams for the sake of a bit more practise is drastic. Although, I'm not tyring to undermine anyone who has left a team in any way. :D And I'm not trying to start any arguments :p

depends what you want from your paintball, i was in the same situation 2 years ago, i want to play at the highest level i can, got offered a spot on Jags and got trained up. in a year i played with the best players in the uk and learnt from them all. you improve by playing against the best in the business not by messing around with ya mates.
time contraints limit what i can play these days but if i had the time to put into paintball and still had the be the best attitude then anyone would be mad to turn down an opportunity to play for the likes of nexus shock etc if u wanna be the best u gotta play with the best not mess around playing uk events. some people are happy just gettin the gear out once a month tho.

This could be why UK teams struggle to achieve the success of US teams?

Maybe the American ballers think more of themselves and do not think twice about cutting their mates in persuit of glory.

Maybe in the UK people stay true to mates (more so than US) and therefore teams are not made up of 'the best players' more a case of 'best of mates'.

Just a thought?

As Avery (off of NPS/KEE/Diablo Storm) said to me once

"whats the point in joining Pro and placing 5th - 8th every event. Drop down a Division and be on the podium a few times a year. Hell the sponsors will love it! And you'll feel good too. Awesome, have a noice day, tomayto."

ok its not a word for word quote.

Yeah some people are. Time constraints most people this is true. And if someone along those lines did offer me a place I'd be mad to miss it, I'd take it in a flash. But everyone does have to start somewere. But any pro teams looking to train someone up feel free to offer me hahaha!

I think it's fair to say that team mates mean a lot to some people, I'm not saying I wouldn't take an amazing oppertunity! And I'm glad you got the oppertunity when you wanted it.

I see what people mean about your team mates being happy for you though, if one of my team mates had an amazing oppertunity I'd want them to take it before hold themselves back. So maybe I'm talking too early on.

I love that quote. But I'm not sure I entirely agree. 5th in a pro division would do me just fine! :D

BAD TO THE BONE
If you get the chance to join a team that has ambition, talent, organisation & some sponsorship you have got to go for it.

1 : you just might make it.
2 : you can always go back and play in a 'mates' team if you dont.
3 : You have to know. You have to know if you can cut it. If you dont
try, then your not gonna know and it'll gnaw at you forever.
Yes you can go down the pub and say you won div ? of give it a name
league (no disrespect intended to any organiser's ) but you'll always
know that you did not give it a proper go.

How do i know ? because i am one of the ones that got that chance and took it.

Not disputing that Twizz has a good point just wondering about the winning at all costs bit. If NEXUS wanterd to pick you up and you would be committed to there playing shedule for the next year, would you join?
Would love to do it, however I am sure Nexus/Misc pro team would not pay my mortgage and associated bills for me............

Also wouldn't leave the fiance, simple as that. Pro players have a short shelf life in any sport. I would rather play for a longer period enjoying myself than play pro for a short time and then have to quit through injury, having to make a life/home/family and being unable to commit to a full schedule.

Yes i want to win, and yes i think our team can be up there with the best in our division this year but if you don't enjoy it whats the point?
