Dear 19 magazine,

I am writing you in regards to your article on paintball by Ron Bracey. I take major offence to this quote:

"Paintballing is realising the typical male fantasy of, 'If only I was in the wild west armed with a pistol and not a forest armed with Dulux'," says Bracey. "This is typical for men raised on a diet of war and cowboy films, but too cowardly to ever really get involved with either."

I am currently in the U.S. Air force and have been serving for the past 5 years. I have been through 3 conflicts since I have been in service, and close to the front line on a few occasions. For this Dr. Bracey to have the gaul to say what he did about being too cowardly to get involved in war, is beyond me. I am proud to play paintball and have been playing for 5 years. In the future, please refrain from publishing crap articles like that. We have enough bad publicity as it is.

Sincerely

Chip Johns

I emailed 19 mag to let them know....

that here in south Louisiana that my 11 year old daughter and ten of her girly friends were in attendence at the Mardi Gras Open in New Orleans gathering all the information they could about playing paintball and learning about the markers that are used in the game.

I'm also treating this same group of girls to a day of paintball at our local field next weekend for my daughters 12th birthday party. They are all into the "girly giggle stuff" but the are all paintball fans. My magazines always come up missing and I know right where to find them, IN HER ROOM !

These girls have gone as far as asking my team to speak to the students at their school about the safety of paintball and to speak to any parents that are concerned about our sport and how safe it is.

Anyway, just thought I'd let them know how these young girls react to our sport.

Same over here. My daughters (8 and 10) were desperate for a PB party for their birthdays this year but they have to wait until they're 12.

Caught the eldest watching Adrenaline 2001 the other day - perhaps she thought it was rude.

I sent 2 in just now... and, what the hell is a BLOKE?.... im not english so i dont know...

Im jugoslavian (THATS RIGHT U HEARD ME!!!) ehhehehe but i live in toronto:D

anyway, i dont think that paintball is a "dangerous" sport or that its "violent".

besides, why are they always trying to sensitize people to violence and the realities of life? i mean, if we are brainwashed and pulled away from it... we wont know how to respond to it when we encounter it. so... NO, violent computer games are NOT bad, No, paintball is NOT bad...

Actually, I think that the computer games are worse in a way than paintball, this makes sense to me because... they CAN make people violent.. i know.. ive been playing computer games since i was like 5 years old... if a person doenst understand what it means to KILL a person.. then things like school shootings happend... but some people might say: so.... computer games that are violent are bad?. NO the people who arent "developed" enough or taught by their parents that violence towards other human beings is not good, then they can become violent. see what im saying?

where i come from (Belgrade, Yugoslavia) there have never been any school shootings, even though there is alot more organized crime, guns, all sorts of things.

So i guess what im trying to say is: None of this would EVER happend if people were just taught that violence is NORMAL, but its VERY BAD.

(not that paintball is violent, im just talking about things in general here)

i think that makes sense? dont u?

I am so proud.

Such a large number of people have come together and tried to help educate others on the real paintball.

It makes you feel good to be part of what in esscence is OUR family (outside our family).

On the field we trash talk each other and get angry and play some serious ball, if some one outside of paintball tries to tread on our toes they know about it.

Big respect to everyone who has helped and the more kids, ladies and men that email 19 the more chance we got of making some sort of wave in their mag.

Lets keep this going over the weekend and on monday we can start sending new emails asking what they are going to do about it and every day till we get noticed.

:D

Thanks again.

Have sent a reply...but..

perhaps a calculated and measured response to our empassioned replies may have been a little more constructive??

I ain'nt no lawyer..(thank f*ck!!)........but I am a thinker so I've been told...

I believe a huge re-think of the image of this sport is in the making and it is up to us as players aswell as site owners to put aside their money values...admittedly this is a business....but a little publicity....never hurt anyone..e.g Monica Lowinski..need I say more..I may get myself ostracised by the sport for saying this but...I don't care.........I just want to play!!.........I love this game with all my heart, My G/F supports me in it and I love the community we have created......if any of us in business or as a site owner or even a publisher can keep our sport alive.....the only thing I can do is say please keep us alive..
