I read some of this stuff out to girls I know over lunchtime at work (I talk to them about Pball all the time and they enjoy some of the mad stuff we get up to - some have even wanted to have a go at sup'airball, not woodland - for reasons like bugs, mud, nettles etc:p each to his own I suppose) and they were horrified to think that a publication like that thinks they (their readers) are idiots who won't realise that what they are saying is so far beyond truth thast it needs investigation, and then on investigation the readers will discover it's all nonsense anyway!

Anther point of view from female non-players who read "girl" magzines. Interesting....

Ok guys said I would do my bit

I have been calling the whole office, ok Trouble had one of their mags too, god help teen age girls.

Eventually I got hold of the features editor She had this to say for her self amoungst a lot of um..........

It was only a jolk............. apparently the whole article was intended to be humours and takes pop shot at "BOY stuff".

kebabs and computer games too.

Knowing the computer Tournement pepole really quite well TTF alumine being their site.

( they get millions for winning their tourneys !!! and page three slappers )

I dout they will be offended but I might ask them and see?

Apparently they have had no complains from kebab shops!!! excuse me like this is a responce.

We are dealing with ignorant I hate to say it superficail females here only out for a cheep jolk.

She was very nice.......... and extreamly vauge about all this but really didn't give a flying............

As I was polietly insistant and explain paintballers all over the world have been emailing the magazine with their utter disgust and dismay that our beloved sport has been portrayed in such an insenotive biast manner. Not that they are awre of it yet no not read one when I called.

I explained how we are trying for reconition as a sport and also trying to encorage more young women ......... more women full stop in to the sport.

I invited her down to the site:rolleyes:

I explained she had an email and invite from our dutch paintballers and that keely watson plays pro in america, it is truly a sport for both sexes.

Sadly she left me with the impression she was more interestead in testing 60 second nail varnish and boy pulling quizies.

Even mentioning vouge and loriell playing paintball didn't get passed

She did how ever say that she would publish our letters.:)

So to that end I suggest we all right thoughtfull stuff bearing in mind their intention was a bloke taking the piss out of other blokes habbits.

Was it in this months eddition I think I will do my home work.

I am no more happy about this that any of you and I am going to get some of her target age group girls to write in too They are comming up to train tommrow.

No letters no sponsored paint;)

That should do the trick

How long before we can have this piss taken out of us and no one willl blink a blind eye because were are as understood as sliced bread....... it's there every one knows about it end of subject.

Just goes to show we have a long way to go to be come acceptable part of modern day life and knowledge:(

I recalled all the emails I sent out before anyone read them, and changed my email to the following which is more mature and less violent. I hope this is better written:

Dear 19 magazine,

I am writing you in regards to your article on paintball by Ron Bracey. I take major offence to this quote:

"Paintballing is realising the typical male fantasy of, 'If only I was in the wild west armed with a pistol and not a forest armed with Dulux'," says Bracey. "This is typical for men raised on a diet of war and cowboy films, but too cowardly to ever really get involved with either."

I am currently in the U.S. Air force and have been serving for the past 5 years. I have been through 3 conflicts since I have been in service, and close to the front line on a few occasions. For this Dr. Bracey to have the gaul to say what he did about being too cowardly to get involved in war, is beyond me. I am proud to play paintball and have been playing for 5 years. In the future, please refrain from publishing crap articles like that. We have enough bad publicity as it is.

Sincerely

Chip Johns

Alright everybody!

After just reading all of this it seems that what initially seemed like yet another pitfall and contamination to the minds of thousands out there on how paintball is percieved has been completely overturned, and the final outcome will hopefully now be in our favour.

Great job Sparklie on managing to convince them to at least print off some of the letters in a future issue, lets just hope they keep to there word and don't accidentally delete them to make room for some make-up tip e-mails on their hard drive!!

It will be interesting to see how they edit any e-mail if they do, and which ones they pic - there could be some pretty pissy e-mails from people who haven't posted up here and they could print them simply supporting their initial article, lets hope not!

(He he he, the victory of another battle is in the horizon in the long time raging war between stereo typed paintball and how it really is!!)

I have sent my letter, the funny thing is from being sterotyped as "Rambo SAS Wannabe's" we are all going to go out and buy bloody copy of 19......

Its just an underhand publicity stunt!!!!

But seriously though it is soooo annoying when people sterotype.

Nice one Tom Tom for bringing this to light.

Ok here's what i wrote to them...hope that it makes sense and stuff

It has been brought to my attention an article called “It’s a Bloke Thing” by DR Ron Bracey….I have read this article and am shocked and appalled at the lack of thought that went into the writing of this piece. I do not have the words to express my distress adequately at the tone of this article whether it was written as a jest or not.

I hope that in future the good DR will research his works to find a tone that will not be offensive to the roughly 25 million male and female paintball players that play this sport for the fun and excitement that it provides and not for any jingoist “militia in the backwoods preparing for the holocaust” reasons.
Please goto www.p8ntballer.com and look around at the site for a reference to what paintball really is.

I thank you for your time

Your most humble servant
