Bacs,

I take it that's assuming there will be a significant income stream generated from some form of sponsorship, otherwise I don't see the pro league detaching from the traveling roadshow just yet...well, not ever is more like it.
Yes, of course, and something like Beak's idea may be an interrum step and actually sounds pretty good--I just wanted to tell him to wear it.
I do really think that the Pro focus for PP is also TV--as it is/was for the NXL in which case if it progresses as envisioned once established they don't need anyone else. All the other divisions and the great mass of prelim games and anonymous teams are simply confusing and uninteresting unless you need their money too.

EDIT ADDED: dammit, Beaks, this near simultaneous posting must stop unless my post gets in first of course. ;)

Aiiiiiiiiight.

You can still have your tours and your festivals without tha great unwashed as participants, cos they just turn up as spectators and watch tha action and spend money at the vendors booths. NPPL Top 18? Think World Pro Surf Tour...

hmmm not so much Format Change more Tournament Structure and League change here me thinks.

It would be quite easy for the NPPL to have all the Pro v Pro games in the evening after the masses have played hence you've got your captive audience in place without any change of Format. I thought the whole consultation process was to identify changes or improvement to existing 7 man not simply altering the time teams play at.

Do you not think Bolter was perhaps closer to the mark, by introduction of a timed element? It also forced teams to adapt a variety of styles and not rely upon a single style of play regurgitated in each game.

Maybe even alteration of the penalty rules?

Or even usage of different squads for different game scenarios?

That saying we seem to be a little late in 2004 to be discussing new format for the 2005 season, even if the Pro ranks are the initial Guinea Pigs

The best of 3 might be tweaked, you could run a 15min total game time idea, most points scored within the time etc.
was before Bolters plagarism ;) :

I mean allocate the teams a 15 minute slot where they get 1 minute turn arounds (or maybe longer) and they can try to cram in 2-3 games on a seven man field. Or do a straight best of three.
And people wonder why I'm a "cynic" ! :) :D
