Format Change.........Discuss.

Ok so the Media savvy amongst you will have probably heard that NPPL and PP are looking into possible format change for next year, so what do you think would make the best format or what tweaks would you make???

This thread isn't for official suggestions, just something to see what people think. Hopefully people will use their brains for once rather than the usual drongo drivel that so oft gets posted during silly season....... Besides there's very little of interest in here at the mo.

So, who wants to go first.......

I know it sounds like a cop-out, but personally I can't see anything wrong with the current X-Ball format

The games are fast-paced, there is plenty of oppotunity for mad stabbing run-thrus and crazy plays. With only 5-a-side, it's easy enough to follow the action and still requires a team to play as one, rather than purely individual skills (although these are important).

Yeah - it can cost a lot to train for, but if we are looking for a top-level Pro-on-Pro media spectacule (sp) then training costs etc. are surely less of a problem?

Of course X-Ball is the bizzle fizzle of Paintball, but it's not very cost effective form a promoters view point. You can't process that many teams, therefore what enhancements would you make to standard 7 man (and by standard I mean NPPL / Millennium rules)?

Also pay some consideration to presenting Paintball to the uninitiated. Again X-ball is a good reprsentation, but I wonder if something else can be done to the 7 man game to represent the same appeal.

I think the introduction of "real death" would be a major advancement as far as "extreme sports" goes, however whether this will be favourable with the likes of the players and various legal authorities is somewhat a different matter.

Doesn't really matter if you can't process that many teams. Division is fixed at 18 anyway....

So format change will only be for the pro bracket?

hmmm, whilst that maybe feasible for 2005, I see any format change moving down to the lower levels at some point. X-Ball, it's played in the US beyond the NXL and Div1.

X ball simply dosen't work in a 150+ team environment.

True - however, Pure Promotions made a great deal about their philosophy that teams of all levels should play the same game. That kids coming into the sport could pick up a gun, play their first NPPL as Rookie and play the same format as Dynasty.

Should they change the format for the top 18 only, it will go against one of their previously stated priorities.

The way I read things, the format change would be for the pro bracket only, but I could be wrong.
Sorry I missunderstood you, Glen. Thought we were talking pro only....

Exactly, which is why we have our eye on him now...he has come over to The Darkside, and must be rewarded.
