Final Solution sucks...

Unfortunately, there's not a lot that we as INDIVIDUAL PLAYERS can do about it. All we can do is express our dislike on an open forum. It can be up to a tournament promoter to place a policy into the rules that would dis-allow team names of an offensive nature. But as we all know that would cause arguments from the teams in question, and the promoters don't want that.

Plus this opens up a can of worms, if the promoter doesn't like you, it would give them the right to ban your team name ("Team Kittens and Flowers", for example) and make you scramble for at best a nw name, at worst jerseys and gear that doesn't have your team name on it.

But, IMHO, it would help to have some kind of recourse, but the players can't do it. It's up to promoters and event coordinators.

Why make a deal about it, names are names....live with it. The teams really wont give a damn what anyone else thinks, and i think the promoters have better things to do.

Me personally didn't find either of the names offensive, even once explained what they were(i didn't know) they are just names.

Once again, they chose the names, they obviously knew what they meant, but they still used them so how you gonna stop them now?

While I agree with you to an extent, dont you think its easier for the Millenium to take 5 minutes and enforce a rule that they created about offensive names and get it over with than having to deal with all the potential headaches that are sure to arise by allowing the team to participate with that name??

I assume your British..How would you react if a team used the IRA as thier team name mocking the deaths of your countrymen let alone 6 million Jews,Poles,Cripples,Gypsies and a myriad of other ethnic groups??If a team named the Al Qaida Bandits or Tim McViegh Freedom Group came to an NPPL there would be blood on the fields..Ya gotta nip the problem before it becomes outta control..

Easy..Enforce the rules..I think we can all agree there are certain names that are offensive and all it takes is a little common sense as to when the rule should be used..

Team names are often thought up over beer...so it "may" not be a huge leap to think that this aformentioned team had no realization that the name would cause offence. Joy Division I always took as meaning something of a sexual nature...given that the team is swedish, not in any other context of a sexual nature though it has now been pointed out that it has other conitations. Ground Zero could most definately have been taken the wrong way by any Japanese people and now also by americans themselves due to the constant use of the term "ground zero" to describe the result of the sept 11th, Ok that name is now New York Extreme but then that is more to do with the X-Ball hopes than anything else. There was once a team called the Hillbillys, now what does that make appear in your minds eye? Nam Wrecking Crew etc, the list is a long one if you look close enough. As for how do individuals feel regarding unjust things being done to their ethnic group...well a former member of my team point blank refused to EVER consider playing on german soil due to what had happened all those years ago and that was his right to do so. A discreet email to the organisors would help getting things changed, nationalistic politics don't have any place in "sport" though it happens time and time again.

Because 6 million people were murdered due to their ethnicity. No biggies, mate.

Thank you far the education regarding Joy Division, TJ and others.

(As for "Final Solution") I say let them compete under the racist hateful name. That way I know who to spit on, and sponsors can choose whether or not to identify their companies with killing Jews.

I am sick to my stomache.

Agree..

Names need to be considered and possibly changed if people find them offensive.

I personally dont have any problems with fun names like "team cumshot" and stuff like that. That is in my opinion a matter of humor.
But when names can offend people for political reasons that is a entire different thing.

Final solution is not acceptable and I wouldnt allow that name on Joy Masters. And if I find out that anyone and especially jewish people find the name Joy Division offending I will change the team name to Joy. As a matter of fact the name change debate from Joy division to simply Joy have been up for a while now.

As Joy Division is made up of Jews, muslims, christians and I thing a buddist we are the first to take a stand against any kind of racism/nazism.
