To the person who mentioed the database, that was my idea ( well most recently) however after getting 7 people responding and realising that after chatting to some paintballers ( none of whom I will name, I will say however that they were not in anyway connected to anybody I am) people just weren't interested, apathy, unfortuantely Jose, ( nice guy, shame hes a teacher :p) was one of the guys who liked this idea.

Now don't get me wrong systems, that have been suggested will not stop thefts, nothing will, basically keep your kit out of sight, in a locked car ( pref the boot).

Organisers, well theres a funny thing, nice guys the lot of them, but they have this problem, money, if you want a scary type person ( ie Liz), they want to be paid, or at least have food and drink provided, well, unless bully is a millionaire and isn't telling us ( which I doubt) he isn't going to be able to afford to provide an extra person ( or more to do this ) and as people moan every time entry fees rise, well he's kinda stuck.

At the end of the day, there are many things we can do, but look at it this way, its all gonna cost, and the general populace ( of paintball) is not willing to pay. so were kinda stuck.

If I get enough interest to do the marker database/ security marking, then I'll do it, but 10 people isn't really worth my while, and won't make that much difference.

Jose, sorry for the kit you guys lost.

Just my rant.

John

A thought

I have a 50 Mb web space, wondering if people would consider taking digital fotos of there gear and placing them on my webspace with the serial number and other bits of info then if it went missing people would know what to look for...

You know llike a database which anyone can access and if your marker goes missing then you register it missing and hopefully HONEST peeps see it and can anonoumously inform someone.

Just a thought, I know it will be flamed but I am offering.

Top start Andy,

An online database is a great idea, it would enable someone to check if the marker they're lookin at is a thieved one

somehow we gotta develop a method for registering guns to owners @ events

i know it's been mentioned before, not sure by whom. but what about a cloakroom style security thing for stuff you ain't using immedietley- ie spare kit that would be in the car.

Just an old thought ressurected

The problem is that someone nicking gear looks like someone taking their own gear somewhere.

But, in the unlikely event that we do catch them, I say we tie 'em up in the chrono tent, naked with a mask on. OK, naked isn't right... put a sign on them that says "Marker Thief."

Why not just let the LAW deal with them, after all theft is against the laws of the land.

I believe Jon Wilson actually proposed a "micro-dot" tagging system with scanner...in fact the PA is looking at an electronic tagging & scanning system for player ID for 2005...to avoid all those embarrassing little "misunderstandings" that took place at the Millenniums a couple of years back...

In theory there is no reason why John's Microdot or a similar system won't work and if set up properly shouldn't be time consuming. A gun could theoretically be scanned at the time of chronographing taking no extra time at all. Jon even offered to set up and run a national database and issue "Certificates of Registration". In today’s modern world it's not impossible and not prohibitively expensive.

An initial voluntary system possibly leading to a compulsory "no tag - no play" system in two or three years could be one way to go. I'd certainly spend 20 quid getting my gun tagged if I thought it'd would save me 2 grand.

Although, like John himself says, it's not infallible...no system ever will be but it's certainly a step up in security.

Just on a slightly different note and something I noticed was mentioned earlier...there actually was Staff at Nottingham going around the car park on a regular basis. I think this was a case of opportunity by some low-life who while packing their gear away nearby realised that in the dark no one would notice them and just did it on the spur of the moment. Personally I hope those responsible for this action get bowel cancer and die slowly...but that's just me in a lenient mood.

OK then.........all that stuff will be replaced then?

Like the time me and a team mate got jumped by six tossers in a subway.........should have waited for the police to sort it. Of course they were 30 yards away arguing that they couldn't go in without another car.

No sorry mate, I'll do what I did that time. Brain them senseless then get them done for assault :)
I'm serious, if anyone touches any of our kit I'll feed them their own fingers. It's one of our own doing this, it's a baller. One of our new players was so upset, she probably won't play again.......... how does that make us look.

Thief, you are a piece of $#!+ and yes, I am baiting you, try it again, please, try it again. The police were not interested, it's just another car being broken into........ they have bigger things to worry about. We need to sort this, us, paintballers, calling the police to a paintball site an hour after the kits been nicked achieves nothing.
