And what is dishonest about SmartParts? That whole patent issue?

Hmmph, in any other business it is considered smart business practice to operate the way SP does. Just because it's paintball, we're supposed to be all nice and cuddly? Get real. Expect more things like this to happen as paintball grows. And not just from SP.

Yes, this happens in other industries as well. In my industry, SCO is sueing tons of companies claiming rights to code that is included in Linux. HOWEVER, that doesn't mean I have to like SCO, or Smart Parts for that matter. Just because money makes the world go round doesn't mean that everything that is done purely based on Huge Personal Greed(tm) is good. As a consumer from one of the richest countries in the world I choose to use my wallet as a ballot, and will tell everyone else to do the same. And I will not buy Smart Parts, ever.

Nick: Stop staring at his ass! :D

When reading what people have gotten [away with] patents on in the US, you really have to wonder what the fcuk the USPTO are doing?!

This I agree with. Your opinion is a lot more levelheaded than just calling them dishonest.

On the other hand, if I were SP and I could get away with it, I'd do the same thing. If I had to pick between being likeable, or having a few extra mill in my account, sh*t, with that kinda money I'd buy new friends. Like Dynasty for instance. ;)

Hey who said Dynasty had to like Smart Parts.
I can see maybe why dynasty has gone with smart parts.
They simply get loadsa cash and hey get to shoot a free marker, whilst being able to go to every event and win it. I'd pretty much say they have achieved everything that at team would want to achieve.
After all to a certain extent, a marker doesnt win you tournaments. Playing the best you possibly can as a TEAM does!
Darren :)

Good luck to them!

There have certainly been lotsa threads about this, but does anybody know fo' sho that Smart Parts wasn't the first to develop an electo-pnuematic marker?

And if it was WDP who did it first and SP copied them, then is it immoral or unethical for SP to finally get around to patenting it just recently?

And if USPO would allow SP to patent something that could be proven to have been around before, what does that say about the fairness of the playing field in US?

Much I don't understand here. But I'm not all convinced that SP has done anything to deserve condemnation for?

I'd like to know.

O dear, by the way i hadnt seen that link until after i posted that ^^^^.
But in any case, last year did any of the lads have to get a job to pay for paintball??
If not, then why not just stay with WDP. They will get to shoot the marker they want and will afford to play like last year.
Surely WDP drew in enough cash from dynasty using their markers to pay to the extent of what smart parts are offering on the table. Now with the A4 out paying that amount would see wdp making that money back in no time, and see dynasty with their special edition dynasty a4.
Still politics, what a nasty place to be in!! :(

Well surely out of the millions of people that can understand a paintball marker. Someone along the lines must have turned a manually firing marker into a semi-automatic (electrical marker). Its not hard. Only takes one person to do it as a small project, for fun!
