Spectator participation

We all have to get used to it...... just like in any other sport.

Part of that is someone booing the team playing against the one they support.

Suck it up !

Nick
Yup it's definitely becoming part of the whole deal. In Toulouse while we were playing Powertrip their countrymen were very supportive for them, both when they won and lost. While playing we knew when we shot someone because their were VERY loud boo's and when one of us was shot there were VERY loud claps and cheers. Not to mention the "Power...Trip, Power...Trip, Powertrip Powertrip Powertrip" chant they had going as we walked on and off the field. It was a bit intimidating, but after winning the third game we got some support from the people rooting for us... it's tough playing in another country ;)

Seriously..... didn't that whole situation make the finals "better" from every perspective ?

I think spectator participation is definitely the future - the words "extreme sport" and "tennis crowd" were always an impossible match.

Nick
Hehe and yes they were drunken :)

It did add to the overall feel and is definitely the future. With 7-man, I think as long as the audience can be far enough back that what they say doesn't effect the game it's a good thing to have them active.

Nick,

There's a difference between crowd participation and hostility though.
In our situation I don't think they were hostile, they were rowdy, but it was nothing we couldn't handle. I'm sure it really got Powertrip pumped up for the finals and it showed in their first game against us.

Oh yeah, congrats to Dynasty for signing such a killer deal. Forget all the haters that are saying you are sellouts, etc. These people, if that position, they'd most likely follow the same course. Do you: A. Stick with a company that has supported you through the years and at the same time has made a TON of money off your name, but will not up the anty. or B. Go with a company that is willing to take a risk by signing you for a large amount of money and is making sure you can continue to play ball to the best of your abilities. From what I know of the Dynasty kids they want to be the at the top for a long time to come and they have taken the steps to insure that will happen (incorporating the team, hiring a sports agent, sign the biggest deal ever in paintball) and they are also paving the way for all the other professionaly ran teams out there. It's cool to see a young group of guys look outside of the box and push things beyond what has been done in the past. This is the future of the sport! To all the people disappointed that Dynasty no longer shoots an Angel, get over it and go buy a Dynasty Shocker, hehe :)

BTW - Anyone had a chuckle and that super cheesy photo of them in the smart parts conference room over on FON?
That photo was included with the press release that us media types got...fascinating that Hendsch is there...I thought he'd severed ties with the team?

Dynasty WILL NOT play in the NXL. SmartParts wouldn't let them. The philly americans used to be the all americans, and SP wouldn't be too happy to see dynasty thrash them. Same with strange, I dont think they will move up either. Wouldn't be a smart move for smartparts.

How does this effect dynasty's standing in the NPPL's eyes? The NPPL is run by pure permotions, which is owned by WDP. Could the NPPL just make life horrible for dynasty? (IE beginning to get really strict on the bounce rules as they have tried to?)

Hrmm, I'm not sure I follow here. The Philly Americans are not guaranteed to win the NXL year. Smart Parts would be better off sponsorsing the top 2-3 teams in hopes that one of them wins the whole deal then to put all their eggs in one basket. However I don't think Dynasty will go to the NXL until there is a big reason too, right now there just isn't. They are getting paid, they get to play more tournaments then the NXL'ers, the tournaments they play have CASH prizes which they are very likely to win and they get to travel the world.

This would be like saying the NPPL made it easy for Dynasty to win this season, which they did not. As far as I could see Dynasty was playing by the same set of rules as everyone else. I doubt the NPPL/WDP/Pure Promotions would risk their integrity by "making life horrible" for Dynasty, it's just not a smart business decision. I think it will work in Dynasty's favor, if they do well again this season it will just show all the haters/conspiracy theorists out there that they can win without anyones help/perceived help.

Sorry if I was a little unclear. I didn't mean to imply that the crowds at that game was acting hostile.
What I meant to say is that I see a possibility for people to start creating hostile vibes from the sidelines. If seen it happen at some games, but thankfully it has been a very small minority of the games I've witnessed. I just hope that ain't the future.
Cheering for a team does not always have to mean you are cheering against the other team. For instance, the game you mentioned sounds like it was all in goo spirits, as it should be, but I doubt any of us want the sort of vibe we see at a lot of soccer matches.
Ever notice how at most "extreme" sports events people cheer eachother on no matter what? Even competing athletes cheer the moves made by the competition when they are on the sidelines... And that's how I hope paintball can be. Sure, it's cool to have some team rivalries, just as long as it all stays in relatively good nature....
