Thought it was a pretty average event despite the hype before.
Layout was good, Trade Show good, Food on site was crap (The little cafe in the car park was excellent and very well priced).

Marshalling was really bad on some of the fields and rule enforcement was not applied fairly. We were pretty pissed of by being told we could not wear our Team Jerseys because some of the Logos were orange, fair enough, but this was after we had already played a few games! Also were any other Teams told to do this because we seen a lot of Jerseys with a lot more Orange in them than ours!
Also on the point of Marshalling, I feel that 'Shock' got a pretty ****ty deal in the Semis against the TonTon's. TonTons won the first and the second game was awarded to Shock due to the TonTons having 'hot guns'. In the 3rd game the TonTons had taken all of Shock out but refused to hang the flag, letting time run out as a draw was good enough to put them through. We spoke to a Marshall about this and asked the reasoning behind it. He told us it was a very professional thing to do as the 2 surviving players did not need to chrono their markers when time ran out! Professional my bolloxs!
To me the 2 players refusing to hang the flag like that were admitting that their guns may be 'hot'. Why in the remaining time did none of the refs go and chrono them? The game was still on, they were both in play and the refs were well within their rights to request that they chrono but then you would need to find a ref with bollocks to do that. Hmmmm,,come to think of it, most of the bull**** happened on the Mill Field!
Oh yeah, when is it Ok to swear on the field? According to the Mill Rules --- never---- except when you are Ollie Lang! Oh, and that also happened on the Mill Field also!

Other than the drivel above, not a bad weekend.:D

surely theres some human rights law that stops people from not allowing you to take water on site. yes you could get hold of it but im sure there's a basic human right which means you shouldn't have to pay for things which keep you alive and healthy...

or am i chatting ****?

who knows?

Mr Pink,
so you got lucky because my team coleagues were stopped when they were bringing water for all the team (5 1.5L bottles)

ascutt and Kris:
even if some rules of organization are unrealistic such as this regarding the waters, maybe this should be considered when searching for a place to a event of this magnitude, and negotiated when the event is being put together. Charging high prices for water is almost the same as denying access to it...

Concerning the event:
The thumbs up:
-Loved the fields, The player's area was pretty much ok, Air always perfect, very good trade show, spectacular venue.
The thumbs down:
-The Water problem , the marshalling (except for some exceptions most of the marshalls were simply too afraid to step on the field and check the players. The most notable exception was a guy in the tomahawk field, the smaller marshall that I have to congratulate for the effort and knowledge of the rules. I watched several games on that field and the guy did an excelent job!Cheers for him), The hailstorm...

See you all in Paris

Actually, I see nothing wrong with that at all.... kinda like a Formula 1 driver with a lead of 2 minutes, taking it easy the last laps, to spare the tires and not risk a blowout.

I have never had a ref require me to discharge my gun during a game, for the purpose of getting a chrono reading, and hope it will never happen.... they should interfere as little as possible with the players.

As for the event, I thought the organisation was superb:

- Players area, techs and air within a few yards
- No field further away than 100 metres
- Teams being called out for every game
- Great food and drink concession
- Generally nice and polite staff

As for the fields, I think we have gone a little overboard by now, and might need to use fewer bunkers at the next event... we are currently working on the designs.... The Tomahawk design is definitely one you will never see again ;)

As for reffing.... well... it had very little impact on our results, apart from our very first game.... but my impression from watching a lot of games Sunday (and in Germany) was, that the level has actually dropped since last year.

Refs seem to be focussing on all the wrong things.... they are hardass on little unimportant stuff like stickers, hand on your head, muzzle touching the backboard, etc...... but then seem to loose heart completely when having to make calls during games for playing on, wiping, etc...... especially when they are reffing "big names".

Worse of all, a lot of the refs seem to have extreme problems with placing themselves to stay ahead of games, so instead of catching hits during moves, they have to go in and grab players and interfering with play.

- And what's with this fear of crossing lanes of paint... and just standing on the sideline and pointing???

I wish the MS would hire someone to coach the refs - they are just hanging out every Thursday anyway - so why on earth not spend 3-4 hours coaching them???

Everyone knows that by far most of the refs WANT to do a good job.... but when nobody is teaching them.... how are they supposed to get better?

I enjoyed this event thoroughly, But:

-Have to agree with the fields being too crowded
-The marshalling on the millennium field was a joke for some games that I observed
-Paint storage would have been better nearer to the staging area
-Didn’t see or experience markers being tested for 15BPS
-Could have provided bleachers for other fields
-The thing about the two players refusing to hang the flag so that they did not have to chrono was smart BUT it’s a safety rule, and in those circumstances the markers need to be checked to make sure the game is being played safely and if the markers are hot then penalties need to be dished out so that teams don’t try and play to close to the edge and take the piss

…on the other hand:

-Food was good
-Friendly staff
-Good trade stands
-Toilets were good (clean) I don’t know about the porta loos though
-The marshalling on the tomahawk field was good considering the type of field that they were in charge of
-Don’t have a problem with ramping (15BPS) but this view may change if the fields become less crowded

Thank you Nick, could`nt agree with you more! The Tomahawk field should be forgotten as soon as possible. Waaay to many bunkers. Maybe it`s fun for rent out, but for competiton paintball it`s not good.

What i think was the best field design was the chrono field. A lot of lanes, not to many bunkers, and it definitely opened up for some fast, agressive playing & moves, based on teamwork. My personal opinion is that this is what paintball is all about : Teamwork!

But i have faith in you for the upcoming events :D

Have to agree with you on this to!

As for the water thing: I carried a lot of water thru the gate every day, and was`nt spoken to once.

All in all i think it was a great event.
But then again, we did our best tournament ever, so if there was any bad things, it`s totally forgotten

We got stopped trying to bring water in. I had the guys organising come talk to the security guards and they wouldn't budge. Strict guidelines from the Bulldog who was sponsoring the event. They even called one of the guys from the Bulldog and he wouldn't budge either. The reason you couldn't bring water in was because of the contract that was signed with the Bulldog that said all the players were going to buy all their water and food on site. Considering how many energy drinks, Aquarius, soft drinks, beers and food we bought on site, making us buy our water as well just sucks!

Tomahawk and JT fields have to go. Just a big mess. I enjoyed the Millennium and Chronic fields.

The organisation was superb as usual. I think the DMA is a brilliant event.
