Just put really big bunkers on the sidelines so it's hard for anyone to see anything going on on the field. ;)

Or require coaches to wear goggles with lenses that are spraypainted black.

At PSP Chicago they moved the spectator line back about 5 more feet, so it was a good 10 feet away from the netting, and no rostered member of the teams playing are allowed on the spectator side coaching. I think the overall effect is what Nick is referring to - the sidelines just become a loud distraction for most players with a low signal to noise ratio (meaning: most of what you hear is unreliable/BS)

of course, this has positives and negatives. In the positive side, it allows spectator to cheer and feel like they're interacting with the game, while reducing the impact (note: I said reducing - you're not going to eliminate the impact completely)

On the negative side, you end up with a barely controlled mob being rude and beligerent to players, refs and other fans. With all that going on and considering paintballers aren't exactly known for their calm, placid temperments, how long 'til the shouting turns to violence? I know it's happened at divisional xball games already.

I wonder... Would paintball hooligans rioting before the big CPL showdown be a step up (towards footie/soccer) or a step back?

There were points? ;)

I may concede them, but not in the way you'd like - I have no problems with coaches having radios to the players - only reason I'd object to that presently would be you couldn't control that only the team had such access.

In fact, if the crowds continue to grow, team radios may be necessary so that people can communicate over the noise of the crowd at all.

Any person who advocates coaching just doesn't understand the game of Paintball or what's important in the sporting ethos of Paintball..coaching has no more place in paintball than do designer cheater boards, it has to go..and fackin good riddance to it is what I say !

To argue that allowing sideline coachling helps our sport grow is like arguing furry dice hanging from your rear view mirror makes your car go faster !

or go faster stripes in red and yellow to carry on the string there Pete

I wish it could be stopped on the crowd side, by not allowing anyone near the netting, in fact first spectators in the stands. Too far to enable them to have any effect. You still get the participation though
On the pits side I think it has little bearing as you are restricted to your base

I watched loads of games from the VIP area and it was fantastic, above the main stand with superb views, and free Corona as well......... with Nacho's

I have said it before and I will say it again.

Keep the crowd in the stands and have the stands at a reasonable distance from the sideline. NO coaching ON the side line!!!

The crowd can scream and shout as much as they like.

Allow coaching from the pit side if you want to.

Teams can still control their players, the crowd gets to participate and everyone is happy.

The Portugese had HUGE support coaching-wise and effectively "drowned out" the other coaches on Sunday. It added alot of atmosphere and fun but it should be happening from the stands.

Hugo and the guys played some great 'ball anyway, so respet to them.
Well done JOY aswell for one of the most epic matches I have ever seen!!!5-4 win against Ton Ton after being 4-0 down and the final against Menace was a fantastic match to finish the event with.

Well i could agree with you, that the Portuguese made a good cheering but we were not that much! We were not more than 15 guys!
I agree but it was still considerably more than anyone else!

Was great to see though. It made the whole experience that much more exciting.

We just have to make sure that crowd participation stays but is controlled as it is in any other sport.

e.g Football fans can say what they like at a match but they are not allowed on the touch line.....
