Yeah, some people do tend to run big bore sizes ATM, but this can be solved by buying a multi bor barrel bit, something like a powerlyte scepter barrel system or a freak. I've also been hearing good things about the evil barrel kits.
One of the best ways to get consistency is to buy good quality paint and have a good paint sive to bore size match, and also to invest in a decent reg on your marker, and usually to double reg it too, so one reg isn't having to do too much work. I can reccomend max flows and worrgas (the latter being made by budd orr )systems for good constistency and flow rates, and the secondary reg dpends on the marker, but the AKA sidewinder that comes on the excalibur and vikings is top notch, as is the black magic/ergo that is standard on most custom cockers.
Consistency isn't that important these days though, the game is played more through a high ROF than accuracy, so anything less than +-5fps is good enough for most, and +-3 is regarded to be excellent.
