Every visitor to the Festival had the event right under their noses. After all, they had to drive, or walk, around the edge of it to gain access to the festival.

But with no clear entrance and no one to point them in the right direction how did people know that it was open for all to come and see?.
I work on some of the biggest events in the country and europe so i know what works and what doesn't, you need event orginsers (who do it for a living) to arrange this kind of event not site owners or people in the paintball industry

Now, with this statement, I totally agree with you.
However, your initial post of 'right idea, wrong place' doesn't hold any water at all.
So, shall we agree that there was nothing wrong with the location of 2007's event, just that it was poorly managed for the general public to gain access?

seriously, if you are planning to use these clubs- then, take SMART CASUAL clothing or even VERY SMART dressing up clothes, as you WON'T get into any of the local venues, if you turn up in trainers, and T shirts - I was down there a couple of weekends ago, and they don't like even the smartest and most descreet trainers !
Alton Towers is by far the better option in terms of theme park location. Biggest and most well known park in the UK.

But honestly it would be pretty hot there as theres plenty of cheap boozers in Alton (more boozers than houses tbh).
Also there are hotels and B&B's and I believe a campsite or two around the area.
Alton Towers is also sign posted from numerous highly used roads etc ...
Also if placed right it would be viewed by EVERYONE visiting either the hotel or the park.

Others to try would be Download Festival (Dynasty did something with Korn once didnt they?).
also trying football stadiums such as Pride Park (home of relegated Derby County) and also other teams. Using the example of Sporting Lisbon (sorry name leaves atm). But it's worth a try surely?
so how come pride park can host music gigs thenim sure they'd love the state their turf would be in after a couple of days play
pitch covering then turf on top would surfice.
