Hello peep's just thought i'd ask your opinion on something.

Just recently i was playing against a very good team who were absolutely ripping up everyone all day. In the game we played against them a situation happened to me which i feel was excessive but i want other ballers opinion on.

Basically this team were wrapping it up. I was mugged and then shot leaving the field. Don't sound to bad until you delve a little deeper.

O.k as the mugger came in his team mate cross field shot me out (We were trading and he was better) So as the mugger came in i had 1 hot in the googles and 1 on the hopper. Fair enough he wasn't to know this but he then proceeded to put 2/3 in my head at point blank range (If i hadn't been wearing a cap i'd have been knocked out) And a few in the back for good measure.
Then as i was walking off dripping paint his team mates thought it would be a laugh to put a few more in me.

Result:
1 hopper shot, 1 front goggle shot, say 2 back of the head and 6 in the back and arms.

Turns out that this team (well respected) were bonus balling people all day (as in most of there eliminations were walking off with 3-4 hits minimum)

Do you think that this is excessive, ok or what?

Cheers

Sounds excessive and the sort of behaviour that puts people off the sport.

Can you name this team? It would be nice to hear their "justification" if they have members that frequent here regularly.

I can see someone getting hit 3-4 times on a mugging, but getting shot after the fact is just plain ridiculous. We all realize that paintball is a fast-paced game in which emotions can run high, and markers are getting faster all the time, so it is not uncommon for people to release long strings of paint. I wouldn't have actually taken it personally until he started the second string of shots(while I'm yelling "I'm out, DAMMIT!"). My first reaction would be to beat him down with my compressed air tank, but then common sense would kick in. After that I see two options: You could have whispered everyone on the field to give them a taste of their own medicine, by bonus balling them to death for the rest of the day. Or you could explain their behavior to the site owner. But which one would you choose?:)

I've been told that it is now fashionable amongst the yank teams to shoot mugged players in the neck, the rationale is that while they are in pain they won't spin, play on and shoot the mugger.

Bonus balling is a form of intimidation.

Just make sure the marshalls saw or know what happened. Don't go shouting and yelling, just look at the nearest marshall, and say something like, "Fooking hell marshall, that was a bit over the top!". If he does nothing about it, tuff. But the chances are, he'll remember for the next time he marshalls that team. make sure that when the captains are called together at the end, that concerns are expressed also. That way the ultimate might have a word with his marshalls to see if they agree and a few penalty points are thrown around.

I too have heard the method of mugging shots being put to the neck or back to prevent spin shots...depending on who I was playing at the time I might or might not do that. I REALLY don't like being spun on because it ends up in being a close shot and for some darn reason over 2/3 of the time it ends up being in the nuts!

Other than that, putting extra paint on someone is useful only to the point that they get out/stop playing immediately. Beyond that it's unethical. Plenty of instances I can think of you might have 6 balls in the air and by luck or by skill 5 of them hit. Possible, isn't it, that someone else on your team saw them and was shooting at them at the time? (I certainly hope I'm not always the only one that sees a person moving!) The hit count can get high that way, but in my book that's not at all overshooting. To me overshooting isn't a matter of number of hits, but rather as in the instance above where there is pausing and resuming of shooting.

Personally I hate being bonus balled, purely cos I do play fair and don't cheat.

Paul--what does bonus ballin' and cheatin' have to do with each other?

The Ultimate Bonus Ball Story--(read this one to all the little ballers at bedtime)
Once upon a time (a month or two ago really) a couple of teams that didn't particularly like each other scheduled a practice. One of the teams was trying out some potential new guys. One of the new guys had been a ref at a recent major event and made a very costly (and apparently bogus--word) call against the other team in the semi's. The first game this new guy participated in one of the other team's players made it his business to shoot the guy out. He did so in the first 3 or 4 minutes of the game and as the new guy was walking off the field the player continued to hose him down. It was, in fact, so bad the player made three position moves as the new guy was walking off the field just so he could keep raining paint down on top of him. All told he unloaded at least half a hopper on the poor unfortunate.
However the best part was nobody, including the victim, on either team said anything about the incident the whole rest of the day as everyone, including the victim, knew exactly why it had happened. :)
