I'm taking my paintball seriously this year......... back at the gym, cutting back on fatty food and lots of other exercise. also cutting the drinking right down........... never more than two pints a night now.

That's still enough tequila for me though.

I think the world of paintball has and will probably see more changes to the athletic abilities of players over the past few decades than any other sport.

years ago, when it as all about crawling through woods un- noticed where speed wasn't as necassary. then came smaller fields, shorter games, the pace needed to be taken up a notch, so small fast gits played up front with usually not as quick guys bringing up the rear.

then came open fields, hyperball, sup air etc, smaller fields less cover, needing yet more speed.

now as we move to the next stage, X Ball, where speed and explosive power are more important than probably ever before.

now anyone of any fitness could take part in any of the above, but again they'd be playing at their level, what we're noticing now are more and more of the top teams are built on young fast players, who don't just chuck the paint, but also use their speed to punch holes in the other team from the word go.
so do this mean, the less fit people will be pushed to the side, hell no, theirs always gonna be a place for those who show the right techniques, and have game.

so whats in store, survival of the fitest, fastest, and focused?? wait and see

Dude, be carefull, never done jiu jitsu myself but know 3 guys that have... all retired with knee injuries.

I think it is like all sports, even Saturday and Sunday football players are seen to have a fag before a game after swilling 10 largers the night before... just the further up the scale of play the more proffesional and fitter the player.

Paintball, I think by virtue of the different positions and types of players lends it's self to all shapes and sizes at all levels, but this is no reason to advocate an unproffesional approach to the game.

I think the PBUK mag is going to do an article on the team fitness issue with their fit man "Craig Twigg". Now they take the development of paintball seriously.

Now, must toss away me doughnut and fag then go for a jog. :D
Craig flippin' scares me sometimes...I mean "no pies"...what's all that about?...

Interestingly tho when I played last Sunday I tried Craigs guide to warming up and stretching before a game and heard some giggles coming from not far away where a bunch of youngsters were laughing at the old guy groaning and grunting....and that was just bending over to tie my laces before I even started stretching...

I remember what it was like to be 18 (just) and remember how invincible I was...I'd just like to say to those guys...one day you'll be as old as me and if you look after yourselves now you won't grunt & groan as much as I do when you get there.

Having people laugh at you can be off putting and no one likes to feel embarrassed which I think is one reason people sometimes feel a bit "silly" stretching out before a game.

From my POV, I really can't be arsed with pulled muscles anymore...takes me too long to get over it and if it's a bad one like I did playing Heavens Gate it was two months before I could even run properly again....so I'd rather look "silly" than spend a week hobbling about on a knackered leg....

Just my two penneth :)

Don't need it, I'm 80% scar tissue now, so pretty much indestructible :)

Seriously, I'm taking my health a lot more seriously now, I do loads of exercise, eat well and start a lot less fights on a Friday.
It's all good.
