Actually, I think Pete is more valuable where he is on the outside of the organisation. This leaves him free to criticise or compliment as necessary with there being no question of bias whatsoever - not that I would ever accuse him of that, but others might. A NEUTRAL highly respected person is always listened to more than someone involved in an organisation.
However, we do need someone (or more) who aren't the organisers of events representing the players, maybe one from each country that holds a Millennium round. My vote for the UK would be to Russ Steel or Matty from Shockwave, or Pete Martin from the Tigers, as they are all respected pro players who've been playing long enough to know what's what.

I thought that DMA2002 would've been amazing had it not been for the weather. However, it should really not be mentioned in the same breath as the cluster-f*ck in Portugal - even with the bad weather it was a good event with the possible exception of the scaffolding and a certain american teams marshalling ability!

Bad weather

It can and will create so many problems.

Netting, playing surface, attitudes of players and Marshalls are all affected. However that's why you get paid to sort these problems out. You think a scaffolding company moans that it rained and all there netting blew off? Or something fell over cus of rain? No they don't. They design a suitable system that will take just about what ever the elements can throw at it. If you have to dig deep holes and concrete double scaffold tubes in the ground and net then that's what you do. Its called SAFETY.

Do you want to wait until the netting blows up and someone catches a pellet in the eye socket and dies? You think they'll get there license from the local authority next year after that happens? Cus sooner or later someone WILL get seriously hurt and that will mean the sport we love getting crucified in the press!

Milhouse is 100% correct...

Sure the weather can cause problems - SO PLAN FOR THE WORST!!

Have good, strong netting, a large players area, a backup plan if the floor of the players area turns into a mud pit, how about covered area beside the fields where people can watch and not get soaked. Oh yeah don't forget the toilets.

You can blame mother nature for so much - but you can't blame her for bad planning.

Who was the genius who put the site at the BOTTOM OF A VALLEY?? Rain tends to gather in the low parts...

Ah, reminded me of the other thing I forgot to put in my previous post. Nexus don't appear to be playing the Millenniums this year whereas teams like Tigers & Shockwave are, and I feel that player representation should come from the teams that are taking part in the whole series.

Bad weather is not an acceptable excuse. But it is something we should plan for.

It's a fact of playing paintball that you have to plan for the worst conditions.

Why don't lessons get learnt from previous events?

I agree with Scutty

Bad weather can make for an unenjoyable experience certainly - Denmark and DMA being two but generally the tournaments came off well IN SPITE of the bad weather.

It sounds to me like Portugal this year had extremely bad weather and didnt come off well as well. In fact the weather had been bad for sometime b4 the weekend and no measures had been taken.

Also so few toilets is inexcusable (I complain always about this - there is never anywhere to wash your hands is there!! Campaign Cup and few others being notable exceptions). Also there sounds like the food concession was not increased despite an increased number of teams. AND when will organisers realise that paintballers are on site before breakfast is served in hotels - and want some food. Concessions prepared to open early/shut late should be mandatory.

All this was true for last year also but the excellent (hot) weather saw them through - we still complained about the concessions then though!!
